yeah 12-core for $400, Ryzen wins this round
No point in going from 8700k to this. Save your money and get a new 3000 gpu
I still remember when greedntel wanted 1k+ for 8 core CPU less than 2 years ago. Thank goodness for competition.

This is probably best and last cpu for socket lga 1151z. I believe the 10700 and 10900k will be a new platform. I'm going to replace my 8700k on a asus z370-3 with this bad boy and just wait another 5 years before I go to a new platform.

It depends. For gaming you might as well stay on the 8700k. If you do video encoding or development then the 9900k makes sense.

Edit: my costs were off

As much as I like ryzen the options for micro atx mobos suck so 9900k is a better choice at that build size

Single threaded ocing is also a bit easier and stronger for the 9900k. Not a bad price for a long term matx gaming machine

Bestbuy [bestbuy.com] has Intel - Core i9-9900K Octa-Core 3.6 GHz Socket LGA 1151 Desktop Processor for $449.99 and Free Shipping.

Intel I9 9900K boxxed processor $449 with free shipping. Requires a 300 series intel chipset board. Microcenter is $479 in store pickup only. I happened across this, so I ordered mine and figured others of you may be in the market for a new processor. I am moving from a I7 4790K.

I think I would get the 9700K over this as its usually $300 and offers almost exact performance. This is overkill for most so unless you are doing heavy video editing or have a Blueiris camera system that requires the extra threads you probably don't need this one. Gaming normally only uses 6 or less threads.
