Sirius SiriusXM : Renew for $30/6 months or $60/year without having to call up

So this is new...

I went to my SiriusXM account. It was about to expire tomorrow, and I didn't want to pay their ridiculous "normal rates".

Normally, this means you have to call in and talk to a sales person who tries hard to sell you a crappy rate unless you hold firm for a while and then you get an OK rate.

Anyway, I was prepared for that. But I called in and...there are no CSRs available during normal working hours. Hmmm...I know, Coronavirus.

Anyway, I go back to the website and hit the "Cancel" button for my subscription. Normally, all this does is give you a popup about how you can call them to cancel.

But this time, it brought up a page saying "before you go, how about one of these offers...?"

And the offers were:

$30 for 6 months SIrusXM Select
$60 for 12 months SiriusXM Select
$100 for 12 months SiriusXM All Access

I picked the $60 deal. It came to $72 with taxes and fees. I was done in 30 seconds.

(All Access gives you more sports and Howard Stern, in case you're wondering).

Very happy not to have had to talk to a CSR.

I'm going through what happens when you do that. They still charge you for it. Super lame. I called to cancel but now they want me to pay money for it. Was on hold for almost two hours combined

It would be nice if I didn't have to talk to XM at all. All they care about is getting the most out of you and make you feel cheap.
I don't know what you drive, but I've never owned a luxury car. So I cut off the reps and neuter their ability to make me feel cheap by telling them off the bat that I am cheap and don't own a Mercedes or BMW and can't afford the rack rate. It almost always works except in January. My Hyundai's subscription lapsed and the rep balked and wouldn't give me the $30 for 6 months or the $60 for 12 months -- even though the month before I got the $60 for 12 deal for my wife's Chevy. However, the joke was on her. I waited a week and received a free 90-day subscription.

It just lapsed this week. I am going to wait until the stay-at-home order is lifted before I resubscribe. It is not like I have anywhere to go.

My bet, this easy method of getting the discounted offer will continue after the crisis. Automation is cheap, and they will be desperate for subscribers in a few months.

So if we are all stuck in our homes for another month or two, they should give those months for free as we are not able to listen.

I don't understand why things like this are so difficult for people... It literally takes me 5-7 mins to renew every time. I'd rather not have to do it, but don't really care. I do the same thing with every service. All it takes is being assertive and knowing what to say.

Don't get me wrong I do that as well. It becomes a headache when you get the wrong rep who doesn't know what they're doing and tries to hassle you for every penny and says they don't offer that all of a sudden when you know they do. It gets annoying when you're put on hold for them to check with their supervisor when it's a "special" deal that's offered every now and then so yeah it's not about being assertive at this point. It's a headache doing it over and over

Noticed this the other day as well. But the "Hot Deal" was just being able to cancel without dealing with a phone call. I am sure they will be ringing me up in the next month or so to re-up and will have some new deal. Since I won't be in my car for awhile I didn't see a need to be paying anything right now anyway.

FYI, if you call in you may be able to get the $60 for a year plus a free echo dot. They had been doing that earlier this year.

Yes.

The plan without online listening was Select LITE. I don't know if they even offer that plan anymore, but it wasn't an option when renewing online.

Calling in usually gets me to have them remove the royalty fees so just 60 + tax instead of $72+.

Is that the " U.S. Music Royalty Fee" about 21 bucks?

Yes that one, but I don't know how much it is, i just know it was a significant amount that kills the deal.

**Edit** NM found it. Had to goto Help and Support to cancel the account and it's found in that drop down box.

Where do you go to cancel?
I dont have the cancel option in the drop down box - you had the option there?
