It has been cheaper than this in the past, but at least 6 months since the lowest price on here.

I have been looking for a color laser AIO for over 2 months and came across this. Great reviews. OEM toner is expensive, but I found multiple aftermarket ones on Amazon that have good reviews and reviews say that they work without issue.

Enjoy.

I bought the Canon Imageclass MF644CDW around Black Friday. The only difference is the 642 does not have double side scanning when making copies. Just know when scanning to the computer, it can only scan one sided, not double sided.

If that's important to you with the scanning feature or double-sided copying then hold out for the 644 model. They will likely have it on sale again for the $169-$185 price I got it for later in the year.

The toner shows it's on 0% black toner for a few weeks now, but still prints perfectly...I think the Canon toner app can only show 10% increments. As others have said I plan on getting Canon only toner to avoid the spill issue. It's more expensive but Canon says on their warranty card, any 3rd party toner used immediately voids the 3 year warranty.
I have the bigger 731cdw and third party toner is terrible. They start off good, maybe a little lower in quality, but after 500 pages or so, the prints start to fade or you get smudges, lines and dots everywhere.

If you go with Canon, be prepared for OEM toner.
This doesn't really have anything to do with Canon and has everything to do with the particular generic toner manufacturer. There are aftermarket toners of varying qualities out there, which is true for all printers.

Just as a point of reference, I had this printer and aftermarket toner (from Amazon) killed it by dumping several of the toners all over the inside. Of course, this could just be a fluke, but it did make me rethink Canon and third party toner...

I agree. After market toner works for awhile. But be prepared for toner leaks. I'm considering the refill kits that reuse the various canon cartridges.

I've had good luck with this company for my mf634cdw (the toner for mine is different than the toner here for the MF642cdw) https://www.amazon.com/Toner-Cartridge-054-MF644Cdw-MF642Cdw/dp/B07VF4PL7W/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywo... [amazon.com]

But yet there is no definitive "best of" 3rd party list or consolidated actual testimonial.

So just saying there are varying quality of toners out there basically says all of them are suspect.

I have the mf644 from the deal last year. Great so far. There has been a bit of a learning curve and I think some of the instructions could be more clear, but neat how it can be customized. Still on the original toner so cannot comment on that. Love the double sided single pass scanning from the feeder (which my 644 has, but the 642 in this deal does not).

Yup, I love my 644CDW. It's been awesome during homeschooling and work. The double sided scan and print makes a HUUUUUUGE difference by saving time and paper. I'd say that even if you don't think you'll be using double side-scanning from the feeder, pay the extra and get the 644 model.

Just ordered generic high yield toner. Hoping for good results but worried about what the rest of the posters have said.

With the cannon 7110 color laser printer I bought a few years ago, it just had completely crappy instructions and the terrible online manual was enough to make me not buy canon products anymore. I am pretty computer literate but this thing is just a nightmare. I can't even figure out how to use windows 10 to check toner levels and it appears from my research that this is common.
It will just sit there and you can here it going but the delay between printing jobs is ridiculous. If I needed it for anything more than the occasion printout I would have thrown it out the f'in window by now.

I bought a color laser HP back in the early 2000's that I had for many years and had no problems
