I know a lot of these are great games so are there any that are not worth getting that I should avoid?

I've only played Strange Journey Redux and finished Radiant Historia and recommend both!

Never bought a digital 3DS game before, as I prefer having the physical cartridge, but the Devil Summoner: Soul Hackers cart averages $60 or more on eBay, so I may have to compromise here.

I should be able to just grab an eShop gift card from neighborhood Wal-Mart/Target/CVS and use that to pay for the games instead of giving Nintendo my credit card number, right? Is Sales Tax charged during the purchase or during the transaction? It drives me nuts on PSN when I buy a $10 PSN card for the purpose of buying a $9.99 game on sale, only to discover that I'm short after the sales tax at checkout bumps it up to $10.80.

Etrian Mystery Dungeon is kind of eh. It plays like any other Mystery Dungeon game so nothing really stand out for me.

SMT Soul Hackers at $10? That alone is FP worthy - good luck finding a used cartridge version

Radiant Historia for $20. What a great deal for a great game. Anyone who likes old school, SNES/PS1 era JRPGs needs to play this game. It's SOOOOO good. I was really happy when they released this remaster. I always thought it was such an overlook gem.

Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor Overclocked and Shin Megami Tensei: Devil Survivor 2: Record Breaker are both fantastic games.

I think of them as Pokemon games for adults without the time-wasting and random encounter crap. Fantastic and crunchy gameplay.

For 3DS I have carts for Devil Survivor Overclocked, Soul Hackers, and SMT IV. For DS I have Devil Survivor 2. Out of all of those, my favorite was Devil Survivor Overclocked. That was my favorite experience, and I played the heck out of it. There are multiple endings to the game. There is a definitely a bit of "gotta collect them all" as you play through. I would recommend it highly for a first SMT game.

For those who love physical cartridges like me, 3DS now is considered a legacy system by Gamestop, so if you prefer, you could chance it the next time they have sales (e.g. Buy 2 Get 2 or similar deals). You'll probably get crappy generic cases and no instructions, but a physical cartridge if you collect. Yes, Gamestop is a problem retailer that may not survive far into the future, but just noting as a possible option, as I picked up some of these the last time they had the sale.

Sounds like a good thing for you to research and post about next time they have a sale. I would stick with digital for the most part but if someone wants carts sounds like it could be promising. We will just have to wait for another legacy sale, haven't seen one in a few.

Yes, they charge sales tax if they are required to collect it from your state.

How do they know what state I'm in if I'm paying via giftcard?
