If anyone is renting a modem, buy this one instead. These things last a long time. Case in study. I bought this same modem "refurbished" in Summer 2016. It's still working perfectly today. I paid about $40 back then. This is a reliable cable modem.
No. The 6190 does and should be avoided, but not this one.
I had this modem on Comcast and it became unporovisioned recently and Arris told me to call Comcast and get it re provisioned. Comcast said they tried and it kept failing. They said since it's not on there approved list anymore that that is the reason why it wouldn't re provision and that my only option was to get a new modem.

I always wonder on these refub modems if they're really refurbished or just being resold because they're slow or have an issue that some non techie wouldn't notice..like my Mom.

Solid modem. Was using one until an upgrade to Docsis 3.1.
As for a refurb...considering that most rented cable modems from your ISP are not new, very little risk. If it lasts 3 months, its paid for.

The refurb are used items, but don't necessarily have problems. They are not "slow or having issues." Used items called by clever names. The marketing people are playing with words.

I have a 8x4 one. Is this an upgrade? Also should I get a DOCIS 3.1 one instead

Depends on your speed/provider. Was using this until I upgraded to 400M. Spectrum list it as compatable but could only get about 360Mbps speeds. A buddy let me try his Netgear CM 600. Constant 405-415M download, 14M upload. Might be due to it being a 24x8 vs this 16x4.

Are these worth buying anymore? Spectrum, gave me a 3.1 Docsis modem for free with my internet plan.

The Netgear CM500 has the same specs (even 16x4). Just asking in terms of longevity, hardware, and performance, which would be better?
