Is this the router or a better firewall?

Having a complete UniFi setup I can say I wish I had gone with a small computer and gone with pfsense or untangle. You get so much more when not buying into an ecosystem.

Has been in stock for a few days now... Not sure how this is a "deal". A SlickDeal would be $300, for example.

I ordered it a few days ago and then cancelled after finding and reading through many posts (Reddit, Ubiquiti forums) full of complaints from users. From small problems to outright broken functionality. I was super excited to see it in stock and then order it. Then did some more research and quickly cancelled.

For context I have two Cloud Key Gen 2's, a nanoHD, AP AC Pro, 3-4x AP-Lite's, USG 3. Cameras: 2x G3 Pro, 2x G3, and 2x G3 Flex. Running UniFi video on my own server.

Was super excited to get a UDM Pro. IDS/IPS at 3.5Gbps?? Built in Protect and 3.5" drive bay... Holy shit, right? But read the many forums, and be disappointed. Probably will buy a Cloud Key 2 Plus to run cameras at a second location, and just stick with USG 3 as well. Might put PFsense on a separate box.

Yeah, seems like PFSense is way better than whatever is built in to the UDM Pro and other similar devices. Not that what they have is "bad", but certainly with PFSense you can have something better.

I have had no problems with mine and have been running it since early access. I don't have a crazy setup, just a couple switches for home wiring and 3 APs, but it's been solid. The only pain was upgrading from EA firmware to GA firmware, when it would not accept my backup so I had to rebuild network from scratch. But other than that it has been great device and a welcome improvement from my USG Pro 4.

Yeah? Shit... See hearing this makes me want to go order it LOL. I'm not a "hardcore" or enterprise/business user, this is for home use. But based on many many complaints I read in various forums, I got the impression that the UDM Pro was a half baked piece of crap that shouldn't have made it to Production when it did :-(.

agreed on what you see.
a quick look at Reddit will show many, many complaints.

there are smart people there, so I'm sure its a YMMV thing.

I am slowly switching all my stuff out to Unifi (have used the WAPs for years).

I have NOT used the NVR service, may try that at some point.

I'd definitely go to Reddit and see what issues people have and make your mind that way.

Not a small chunk of change, but I came from an old Sonicwall and Smart Netgear switches and was just ready to have "one pane of glass" management.

I love mine and have had it since September but the firmware is still buggy. I really recommend waiting another few months. Hardware is amazing though.
