The VPN function would need a user account setup inside the router's user interface. For instance if you had a lifetime account through Windscribe or another provider you could configure the router to connect through the VPN so that each device that accesses the network through the router will be behind your vpn connection. There are a lot of advantages in certain configurations to having the VPN setup on the router. This would be a good router behind an existing router for a VPN solution with probably better wifi coverage than what your isp provided.

Good point. It appears the a7 and c7 have very similar hardware specs. Only slight variations to the CPU and switch chipset. The A7 is very similar to the C7 but with some features removed to reduce cost. Those features are: Fixed antennas vs. detachable antennas, one USB port instead of two, no status LED for the USB port, shared WiFi off switch with WPS not separate. Sounds like if you have to have the "Alexa functions" you go with the A7. I've been running a tp-link c9 for years with dd-wrt installed and it's solid. I've had decent luck with tp-link hardware so at this rate for an upgrade over your existing isp wifi or to replace an older unit you should be fine in most home user cases. I'm personally leaning toward a mesh solution for my next setup..

This one is sucks at 5Ghz. Dont buy it. You can easily find a refurbished for 30$.
5Ghz network disconnects frequently with iPhone and laptop. Sometimes it doesnt.

so its not really a vpn server
its more like a switch (re-router). i thought we could run a vpn server from.home then sell it to others so they can use the credentials to log in to this router from anywhere in the world and use my isp as their provider.

i dont get it. the c7 infact is selling for much cheaper at walmart and bestbuy. i thought a7 should be a superior product.

This is the highest sustained price in over 1 year. It has not been $79.99 since 2018.
