Deal Details

Update: Emailing them from their website works great. They will call you directly and they will have a written record of your complaint.
You can also call 1-800-824-9081 and at the voice menu say "cancel service".

I called DirecTV to see what counter offers they had in place. I am only a Select Choice customer from 1997 and have a 40 hour Tivo unit, and get free local channels. So my monthly bill after taxes is now $51.

Current deals:
$10 off a month for the next 12 month - no commitment
OR
$100 credit on your bill - no commitment
AND/OR
Free channels for a few months - no commitment
AND/OR
Miscellaneous DVR type of freebies/discounts - normally 2 yr commitment required.

Original posting deals that were going on:
Here is what the rep outlined (they know about the Dish Network special):
  • Upgrade Tivo to 80 hour free, and gives you a $100 rebate on top of that
  • 2 months Premium service free
  • 6 months of Showtime free
  • 3 months of Starz free

Hmmm....decisions, decisions.

Good luck!

We are moving and have had a 'vacation hold' on our account since 11/29.
Scheduled a new installation date of 12/26.

This particular account was started 10/2011 [churned once already]

Called the 888.DTV.MOVE number

-CSR scheduled the move and needs to charge $128. Not sure what the charge is for. The other times I have moved, there never was a cost. Does anyone know if this is new?
-She offered HBO and Skinamax for 3 mths. Don't care for either, but she didn't offer Showtime, which is what I really wanted. Asked for Showtime...no go. HBO + Cinemax only.
-Asked for the Genie...to no avail.
-Chick was pretty rude
-Looked online and she reactivated/removed the vacation hold on our account. Bill went from slight credit to owing $60.

Called Retentions.
+Upgraded to Genie, no charge
+asked for and rec'd Showtime [House of Lies, Californication, Homeland] and Starz
+wiped out $128 charge for 'Movers Deal'
+reinstated the vacation hold
+CSR was uber nice

went from super pissed to super satisfied

Yea, I've been out of contract for a good while. Went ahead and tried today. I already have a lot of credits off my account so I figured they couldn't help me there, but I tried.

I will be getting an Extra HD-DVR, and 2 HD-Receivers with the Whole Home DVR and 1 year of Showtime free. Only fee I have to pay is installation for $49 and of course the standard extra receiver fees.

Called on my way home from work. I've been off-contract since July.

$30/mo bill credit for the next 12 months (and $3 WHDVR credit for the next three months)
free Cinema Connection Kit with free installation
Showtime free for six months
Starz free for six months

No contract extension.

Really looking to fully cut the cord and go all-streaming. This will give me time to game plan without impacting my wallet so much.

I just called to cancel (i'm out of contract now) and the best offer they had to keep me was pretty week. No price reduction for longer than 3 months... so I confirmed i'm cancelling. Will be rid of the service in a few days barring some amazing offer if they call me back for an attempt to keep me.

edit: A rep called me this morning to try to get me to not cancel, but even though they offered more deals ($250 plus movie channels) the one year extension wasn't good enough.

never had a problem getting deals from retention until now. First attempt was $20/mo off for a year but with a 1yr contract. Will try again later, trying to stall until the NEW DirecTV HR44 arrives.
Fresh from CES http://www.engadget.com/2013/01/0...-hands-on/
Also don't miss the freeview weekend with ALL the premium channels.

Any idea when they will start using the H44 for new installs? I am on a 6 month uverse promo and am hoping to switch to DTV once that is over.

What do all you DirecTV users do for internet? I loved and miss my DirecTV. After about 10 years, I've been on a wire for about the last 3. Fios is just so much cheaper bundled with internet and TV. How are you all getting good internet and DirecTV for comparable price?
Thanks in advance!

no date announced but 6 months sounds feasible. Says free for new customers but they better start treating their loyal old timers better. Way back we had to run coax up to the satellite. Wink

Did you have the service turned off for them to call? Or did you give a disconnect date in the future?

I am paying $20 per month to AT&T for a "Dry" DSL Line. For phone I have an Ooma Hub system that costs NOTHING per month. I am paying ~ $72.00 per month for Directv with HR34, HR24 and two H-25's. Tthat rate WILL GO UP in August, unless I cancel and pay the $240 ETF, which is exactly what I did in 2012. This year??? Depends on what retentions will offer me in lieu of paying them off and either moving to Comcast, Dish or Uverse which are my three other available choices.

There is an ad at the top of the page as I type this that offers Comcast Internet Phone and TV for $94.85 per month. Such a Deal but it costs 85 cents more than I am paying NOW!!

Edit added the link to the Comcast offer:
