As a leading source of analysis on international business and world affairs, The Economist offers information through newspapers, magazines, conferences, electronic services, and more. Advocating economic and political freedom around the world, this is a reliable source to obtain accurate and up-to-date information about global issues.

The Economist is now offering 2 deals that are up to 80% off the original price!
  • $12 for 12 weeks - digital, or print AND digital (ORIGINALLY $69)
  • $51 for 51 weeks (only for students) - digital only (ORIGINALLY $149)
Subscribers will also receive a complimentary Economist-branded Moleskin notebook which retails for $24 if purchased separately. People who purchase the $51 for 51 weeks deal also have the option of participating in the Economist planting a tree sustainability initiative through Tree-nation (for every sale, a tree will be planted somewhere in the world). The link for the sustainability initiative will be the second link listed below. After the initial 12 week for the $12 deal, the subscription renews for $55 every 12 weeks for Print + Digital OR $45 for every 12 weeks for Digital only. The $51 for 51 weeks subscription renews each year for the discounted $51 cost.

I enjoy the economist and can read all their stuff for free. But I feel like I can support them with a subscription. Should I?

The original poster mentioned that you can cancel at any time! I think you just have to contact the Economist through phone or email.

If you can't, just set a Google calendar reminder 50 weeks from when you sign up.

Also, do you need to send your student ID or verify yourself through something like sheerid to purchase this subscription?

No verification needed. I had their print and digital subscription which about to end soon, so I pulled the trigger. For 51 USD, I think you get a high quality content. I choose digital mainly because as much I like reading their print copy, it just not practical. I also like that you can listen to entire magazine.
