The plate amplifiers fail, very common problem with subs in general though I'm sure some models are worse than others.

Generally not worth fixing. A factory replacement amp, if you can get it, will likely cost more than a ~$200 new sub is worth. You can buy a generic replacement and fab it in place but still, not cost effective.

Bottom line sub is something you want to put on a credit card that adds 2 years of warranty.
I'd actually do this another way.

Remove the plate amp and replace with the same size piece of rigid material (wood, thick abs plastic sheet) with a couple speaker posts added and power with an external subwoofer amp.
I would get the Dayton.

I had an Energy sub that lasted 5 years and was good while it lasted for a smaller room. Seems common as well with the older klipsch subs. But at this price shipped, seemed like a good deal.

Mine lasted about 5 years too. Thinking hard about this one.

I don't know much about subwoofers but I can tell you in my case the speaker will power on but won't play a thing.

alternate to consider might be the Polk Audio PSW10 10" which is currently at $99 at Amazon (this is often at this price). Amazon warehouse has it for $91 but I would not trust since these could be returns and someone would have blasted these subs before returning them.
