TP-Link Deco M9 Plus Tri-Band Wi-Fi System with Built-In Smart Hub, 3-pack

Though this seems like Costco's regular price, I consider this a deal since the 2-Pack is on sale/goes for $199.99 other places.

The M9 Plus or the M5s? They look the same.

It was a price mistake on the M9.

I got this recently and between my experience with it and with my previous Netgear R6200, I'm never buying a piece of Netgear equipment again

Here's my response on another Orbi thread:

Got the RBK23 and set it up last night. My initial reaction is extreme disappointment https://static.slickdealscdn.com/ima...lies/frown.gif

I have a 3 level townhouse. My old setup was an AC-1900TM on the main floor with a wireless bridge to a Netgear R6200 to provide ethernet to some devices in the basement that don't have wifi. I bought the RBK23 for
- increasing the coverage, which was not great upstairs or outside
- to increase speed
- to replace the R6200 which isn't super reliable and needs to be rebooted more than I'd like

With the Orbi, I put the RBK20 (the main unit) on the main level, one satellite (I'll call US) on the upstairs level and one satellite (DS) in the basement. I have DS connected to a switch to provide ethernet to a number of devices.

So here are the things I'm dealing with
- US is connected to the RBK20, which is good. DS is connected to US, which is not good.
- The speeds with the Orbi are not much better than my old setup.
- My older devices don't see this a single network to connect to, they see each unit separately (this is probably not an issue with Orbi but just a general consideration)
- There seems to be no rhyme or reason on which unit my devices connect to. I'm sitting next to DS and yet my phone is connected to US which is the furthest unit from me.
- My MacBookPro has lost wifi connection half a dozen times since I set this up yesterday. It never lost connection to the AC-1900TM
- The app is nice but all of the power user functionality is only available via the web interface which is dated. It's basically the same interface as on the R6200 which is almost 10 years old
- IP address reservation does not work. Like not at all.
- Because IP address reservation doesn't work, then I need to be able to resolve my local hostnames. Apparently Netgear does not and has never supported that. Unreal.

I haven't tested the range yet. But I'm not sure it will matter given this list of issues. I will probably return this.

Since then, I've dealt with numerous satellite disconnects, the wifi on my MBP dropping repeatedly and the main router needing to be rebooted after it went dark. A complete shitshow for something that is supposed to just work.

Orbi is great to push a strong wireless signal out but not so great as a router. I think ideally you use a separate router, like an ASUS running Merlin firmware which is rock solid with great features. Turn off the wireless on the router and use Orbi in AP mode for wireless. I have an ASUS AC86U router and Orbi set up like this and it's solid. It doesn't need to be an expensive router. To go cheap this would work with a ASUS AC68 router that sells for $60 on the used market.

My two cents... Bought this last week and it has been absolutely great for a 2,500sf home/6,000sf lot. Tri-Band really does make a difference.

We bought a 3pk Google Nest Router (not router + 2 points) system initially and it was terrible. We were getting very inconsistent speeds around the house on a 200mbps connection.

The Deco gives us full 200mbps anywhere in the house, including the backyard in the gazebo (with the Google we were getting 30mbps). The app is also much better than Google's apps.

Did you get it online or in store? Ordered one on Friday and it hasn't shipped yet so just curious. Local warehouse doesn't carry it.

Have you received any shipping information? I order mine on Thursday and still nothing. I ordered a garage light from them and it was shipped and delivered in a week.
