Lightweight body with impressive looks and dual DMT design pickups.

Michael Amott Signature Tyrant X is an affordable guitar that makes no apology with a lightweight basswood body, bolt-on-neck, and 22-fret rosewood fingerboard. The short 24-3/4" scale and "V" shape make this an extremely easy guitar to navigate with access up the entire fretboard. DMT Design pickups give you a wide range of great tones to work with – from sweet vintage to modern aggressive. Grover tuning machines, and fixed Tune-o-matic bridge offer stability and added sustain.

On of the guys in my worship group has this model. Pickups are a little too hot for passives.

Made in China Deans, as with most brands, are simply not good quality. Cheapest of everything component wise and uninspiring quality. A step up to a Made is Korea model is a world of difference. Even used is fine. For an inexpensive guitar, I look for MIK. MIC is always a pass.

I think your focusing too much on country of origin here. The issue is that even at full price this is a relatively cheap guitar. Almost every single guitar brand manufactures overseas in Asia and most brands do not have any facilities in Korea or Japan anymore. At least not for their standard stuff. Most things you will see are China or Indonesia, which is not an indication of poor quality.

If you want a higher quality instrument with higher quality pieces, then you shouldn't be shopping for a sub $400 guitar.

Do you have a Korean made Dean? Or a Chinese made one?
No, I am not focusing too much on COO. I am speaking from experience here. Lots of it. And that is exactly why I'm saying what I'm saying. And that is why Dean has 3 tiers of guitars with quality and price differences accordingly: USA, Korea, China of you break them down to COO. I've played them all and can tell you the difference.
FYI, a couple years ago I bought a BC Rich Mockingbird on closeout for $200. Amazingly good guitar, period, let alone for the money. But it was MIK, so not a huge surprise.
So I' just trying to help here and give some tips on what to look for. Based on real experience. And I'll also say that I'm far from the only one who understands this too..

"Made in China Deans, as with most brands, are simply not good quality."

I am responding to your overly generalized comment regarding "most brands".So really again, the issue isn't the fact your buying a Chinese made guitar, you are buying the lowest tier Dean and will inherently have cheaper parts and lower quality control. The country it is made in is irrelevant.

geez... Facepalm

MIC is literally meaningless. Yes, Dean's chinese guitar are pretty awful and need some TLC upon arrival.

Some of the best guitars i've ever played have come out of China. They have a massive spectrum of abilities to produce. Unfortunately for a lot of consumers, this is where many companies just get the lowest rung, fastest turnover instruments produced.

Inherently, there is no difference between a US luthier and Chinese luthier. You can get an amazing product from both. This Dean deal... you aren't getting that. You're just getting a quickly turned out instrument for profit margin. best of luck if you buy one of these.

Did you notice the lowest tier is always China. That certainly does make it relevant That is far from overgeneralizing. That is actually quite specific. You are only making my point trying to argue with me. At least it is said so others will get it. Have a good day!

Anybody know how long these "hot deals" typically last? They have a Dean 79 ML for $399 as well. These are typically $650 to $700. I'm not sure how long the items on their hot deals section usually last.

Good price, but I've been reading that a lot of people have been having trouble getting their orders fulfilled by Musician's Friend. I'm seeing orders stuck in perpetual processing, stuff that's supposed to be in stock going to backorder after waiting weeks for it to ship, etc. Anyone have any of those type of issues with them lately?

I won't say I had trouble with receiving time; but, I will say I had a terrible experience with a guitar I recently received. It was beyond clear that it was dropped prior to or during shipping causing major damage to one of the sides of the ( V ). They really tried to give me a ton of issues with the whole process.

I had to take multiple pictures and they wanted me to prove I didn't do it. I had to take photos of the box, show where the foam was busted, how it lined up with the V, etc. They finally gave in (which really was the right thing to do) and would take it back only because I was able to show proof of prior purchases. Really poor job by whoever shipped it. I won't buy another guitar from them again. WAY too much hassle.
