3 To qualify for an HSBC Premier relationship, you need to open an HSBC Premier checking account and maintain:

Balances of $75,000 in combined U.S. consumer and qualifying commercial U.S. Dollar deposit and investment* accounts; OR

Monthly recurring direct deposits totaling at least $5,000 from a third party to an HSBC Premier checking account(s); OR

HSBC U.S. residential mortgage loan with an original loan amount of at least $500,000, not an aggregate of multiple mortgages. Home Equity products are not included.

Consumers who maintain Jade status.

A monthly maintenance fee of $50 will be incurred if one of these requirements is not maintained

Is there a minimum duration (e.g. funds need to be in HSBC for at least 1 yr) to get the 3%?

Also, has anyone recently had experience with this or a similar HSBC product and are they a pain or pleasure to work with (e.g. how hard to open and close down an account)?

Am I missing something? Why would anyone choose the welcome offer over the 3% offer?

It wasn't very difficult opening or closing an account but they didn't have any valuable customer service when there was an issue with my online account and I needed to go to physical location for help. Not happy that they haven't improved their site/app. Good rates but bad service.

Is it safe to say this isn't available for someone who is self employed? It says "Qualifying Direct Deposits are electronic deposits of regular periodic payments (such as salary, pension, Government Benefits or other monthly income) made into your HSBC Premier checking account from third parties at least once per calendar month".

I googled "Qualifying direct deposists" on google and I got this from Santander:
Quote :
"We define Direct Deposit as follows:

• Direct deposits include deposits made by the customer's employer or a federal or state government agency or retirement benefits administrator and generally payments made by corporations or other organizations.

• Direct deposits do not include deposits to an account that are made by an individual using online/mobile banking or an Internet payment provider such as PayPal
So that means you couldn't direct deposit money you have in another bank to qualify for that portion of the stipulation?

That is correct, ach transfers are not considered a qualified direct deposit.

Wow, they really want to setup DD for people. I'm about to actually close my account from the 2019 $125 offer and 2.55% APY..(now like 1%) the online and mobile apps are really poor relative to well, just about anyone. But 700$ is a nice bonus assuming one can guarantee their DD bonus comes through.
