It's a low price, but it's worth spending $15 more to get something 5 MP or higher. 1080p / 2 MP won't get you much detail.

Their software and firmware is still complete garbage compared to everything else on the market.

The video on my Amcrest 2k camera is good but the software is terrible. Look it up before buying.

Get Lorex camera system, plug in this camera directly works ok, personally prefer 4K. But would be double the price tag

Anyone know of a good tutorial on how to set these cameras up using the "advanced" settings like ONVIF, etc.

I have a few Amcrest (Dahua OEM) cameras hooked up to a Dahua OEM NVR. They work just fine, but I can't get the alerts to work at all or smart recording (i.e. only on motion).

Has poor ratings on Amazon

https://www.amazon.com/Amcrest-Ou...B0753458JM

In regard to PoE cameras theres A LOT of BS on this website from a guy that pushes LaView to others that say 4k only! Even in tight spaces!
  • Most of these PoE are designed by and made in China, rebranded with whatever name. They all have extremely horrible support and I do try to buy from Amazon exclusively due to Amazon's No BS 30 day policy plus the impact of negative reviews actually sticks there
  • The notion of getting all 4k cameras because its 'the best' is absolutely moronic. 1080p is what a smart person would get for a tight area like a enclosed porch or wherever you dont need to see far. You should always look at ways to maximize storage space, how long you can keep data by reducing waste. 4k in a tight area will not help the police. Source: I've used footage that was given to detectives
  • Understand that PoE means lots of wires and what not and dome cameras benefit from some sort of overhang above it as leaks can occur (bullet cameras are best but they are obvious and if you dont want obvious then clearly they're bad.. dome cameras are said to not attract spiders as much. I find this part true but my bullet cameras seem to have far less issues so its a give and take situation).
I say this and it goes against the herd mindset here but I use PoE, I pay for Blue Iris every update, I have no intention on ever not using PoE and Blue Iris but I DO NOT recommend it to any of my friends / family. They are not the type of people to spend hours tinkering with software such as Blue Iris. To get things just so such as AI is not the same as Nest or Arlo where it's lightyears better. Blue iris absolutely works with Alexa but it's not remotely as capable out of the box and many smart features you've seen for years now with Nest and Arlo still arent in Blue Iris. The excuse I got from the man himself is that Blue Iris is supposed to be a professional solution palatable by a consumer audience.

A nice way of saying there wont be a huge amount of effort put into such features. Do I suggest you, the person that just wants things to work to mess with all these wires and Blue Iris? No. But if you are in IT or dont mind, then Blue Iris frankly does the job, just (Regardless of what people say) it doesnt do the smart stuff remotely as well as Arlo and Nest. But it's lightyears above the Chinese crap I've seen out there and is truly a professional solution at a very reasonable price and I really am liking Reolink.. Chinese too but they just have a better vibe and their prices seem better. But remember - wide lenses typically are not found on their cheap cams whereas Amcrest puts wide lenses on most (I find wide to be needed more often than narrow lens)

The end

One example to back this up.

I bought one of their best 8MP turret cameras (IP8M-T2499EW). Picture quality of the camera is good, maybe even great for the price. It's clearly a Dahua clone and the software has about half the features of an actual Dahua, still fine.

HOWEVER, every time the camera restarts it automatically re-enables their P2P option which is their cloud based Chinese spyware garbage setting. EEK!

I guess they're okay with BI, but that's about it.
