Historically, Mindstorms has been updated every 7 or 8 years with a minor refresh at the midpoint of the life cycle. EV3 has been out for 7 years without a refresh. It is due for a new version. Also, spike prime came out in January, it introduced new parts (wheels, frame pieces, etc, along with new sensor designs). Combine all these things with the fact that EV3 is retiring soon, I bet a new version is right around the corner. I suspect education sets will be out by end of summer so it can be used this school year and for the 2020 FIRST Lego League.

No, but I guess the new release might come out soon since on the official lego website, it says the ev3 will retire soon...

What's the difference between this one and the education one? Is it worth the price difference ?

I agree with the comments above that a new mindstorm version is likely coming in the next year or so, but keep in mind that it will be full price for a LONG time and that Mindstorm EV3 is still incredibly capable. Just throwing out my 2 cents.

I picked up the EV3 about a year and a half ago and I've been really pleased with it so far.

Put the code (EV3) in at checkout - that brings the additional discount and free shipping...

I'm still not sure why everyone thinks that Lego is coming out with something to replace EV3. They seem to be fully invested in Spike Prime. The main advantage of Spike Prime is it's two second start up time. Other than that EV3 is still a formidable platform to the Spike Prime. The gyro sensor is also much more precise on the EV3 than Spike Prime. Spike Prime will lose +/- 5 degrees with a 360 degree spin. The downside with EV3 is the long start up time, and this sometimes causes gyro drift.

The education set comes in a durable tub, includes a castor, rechargable battery, charger, and swaps the infrared sensor out for an ultrasonic sensor (the IR sensor is not allowed in FIRST Lego League competition). It is definitely worth the price difference when comparing normal prices. The education software can be downloaded and used with the retail kits. It offers lessons and more builds... but also assumes you have the extra equipment. When a new version comes out, I suspect the education kits will come out first because FLL teams and schools are guaranteed customers. Retail copy's probably will be out a couple months later.
