For comparison, it went to $160 a couple of years ago.

In a few days we start the huge job of painting our house, garage and shed. The plan was to grab the Harbor Freight airless sprayer. Anyone have any experience, is this worth the few bucks more?

I don't have this one, but I have the x5 which is also on sale, and its amazing. I have no experience with the harbor freight one, although I do have a lot of harbor freight tools, but for a sprayer I wanted a big name, that I was sure wouldn't be spraying globs. Just my 2 cents.

It's supposed to be great but it goes lower than this.

You might be better off renting one depending on how often you are going to paint the exterior. Painstaking to clean & a hassle when it gets jammed up with paint.

Compared to two days rental it was worth it to buy. I own one after buying if for my fence job. Might use it this year to paint the house. Price is higher compared to previous sale. Recommend - 100%. Ensure to wash the hose properly and wash the machine with provided cleaner.

I used the X5 as well when I painted my house. Amazing value.

I was planning on going with the masking everything and then spray, but I keep reading about back rolling. Still really confused about it. Did you back roll after spraying?

I do that, I used to own an airless sprayer yet the commercial ones that you rent are much more powerful and you don't have to store them or treat the pump. And if it breaks it not your problem.
Plus a good spray gun, metal not plastic, is over $100 as well.

Last time I rented an airless it was like $60 for 1/2 day and we shot a 2600 square foot home and the attached two-car garage in less than 3 hours, which included a trip to get a different airless as the first on died. And they did the clean up of the machine.

The best paint jobs are backrolled, after prime.
There are sprayer heads with a roller attached so you can spray and roll with the same tool.

If it is close in price skip HF as Magnum and others you will be able to find parts easily.
Plus the Magnums are great homeowner paint sprayers, not commercial grade which is usually what I rent. Depending upon what you are spraying you may be much happier using a commerical airless.

These are awesome but the amount of prep work in taping off everything with the clean up is not fun with how fast the actual painting is.

BTW if you have everything primed, masked and ready to shoot, you can shoot a single-story home 2,600 feet plus a 2 car garage and a small shed in less than 4 hours.

Pick a sunny day with no or low wind. And no forecast for rain.
Be sure and wear a tvek paint suit and a paint respirator.
Also be aware that these machines can cut you and push paint into your body.
