Yeah, it's been around a while and the only Renoir laptop which is not out of stock, the reason must be mediocre screen with 1600 x 900 aspect ratio. I wouldn't bother to be honest.

Ryzen 4000 is awesome, but this is (almost certainly) a TN display, and a low-resolution one at that. The webcam is abysmal (it's 0.3 MP so probably 640x480 resolution). Slow RAM for a Ryzen 4000 system, and half of it is soldered. No USB-C. No backlit keyboard. Hard hard pass at $700; even allowing for inflated laptop prices right now, this is a pretty bad deal.

The Ryzen 5 version comes out to $599. I really want the Ideapad 5 with touchscreen though.

The Ryzen 7 with a 14k passmark, that's a great deal

I think we start losing the point of being hyped over ryzen 4000 mobile when laptops that should cost $300-400 (or maybe $500 considering covid inflation) are priced at $700. The reason why people were so hyped over ryzen 4000 is because now we thought we could get high end Intel performance and mediocre Nvidia graphical performance at the same cost that was ryzen 3000 mobile. But at this price point may as well just buy an Intel powered laptop with Nvidia graphics that has better build quality too. Hopefully the inflation will go away soon and we'll be able to buy laptops at the awesome value we were hoping for.

The 4500u has a 11763 passmark. You can't really upgrade the ram anyways.

This is a terrible deal.

Right now for $620 you can get an HP 17z with:

Windows 10 Home
Ryzen 5 3500U
12GB RAM (two slots 4GB + 8GB)
256GB NVME SSD (can add another SATA 2.5" drive)
1080p IPS screen (non-touch)
backlit keyboard (must choose Jet Silver color)
2x2 wifi card w/Bluetooth 4.2
DVD writer optical drive.
HD webcam

This is front-page worthy IMO right now considering the current market conditions. I've been following this deal for a couple weeks now and it goes unavailable and comes back every few days.

Yes, the newer AMD Renoir CPUs benchmark better then the older Picasso CPUs, but I doubt most people would notice the difference with everyday use.

Not frontpage worthy because the laptop is gross.
