I tried to make a Lorex 4K NVR system work. I really did. The cameras were good but the software was just unbearable. I went all in on UniFi and couldn't be happier. 4K Unifi Protect cameras are VERY expensive but they perform wonderfully. The software interface is near perfect and very reliable. The Ubiquiti tax is similar to the Apple tax but that tax is worth it for people that just want something to work.

I came across this myself few days back and wasn't able to evaluate if this is worth it or not.

He had opined and stated the Costco deal was similar for 8 cameras. I do not have a need for 8 and quite honestly do not want to sell them via eBay/ OfferUp etc. So this was a better deal for me. I price matched through Best Buy

That's what I'm thinking for.

I have 7 wires pre wired outdoors. This covers 6 of 7.

I can always buy a 7th camera if desired in future to add the last pre wired camera wire that I have.

Price matched through phone/chat?

Heard software is difficult for newbies. Takes some getting used to and am sure there is better software out there but the price point for the cameras and residential use is perfect for my use

It depends on how you use it. It worked. It recorded. But quickly accessing recordings was so frustrating. For a network device, the methods for accessing the recordings from the network were an afterthought. I rely on the app for motion notifications and the Lorex app is hot garbage. Having to install plugins for browser use is unacceptable. Unifi Protect just works. No fuss.

I understand that frustration from having previous lorex systems.

For the price point of 520 with nvr and 6 cameras. I think this is fair.

It did take me some time. Ultimately calling a store is probably easier.

Has anyone tried integrating Lorex NVR with Google Home? I want to say "show me the front yard" and see my front yard on a Nest hub. Lorex advertises it works, but based on the comments on this thread, I feel I need to double check.

I would hope it works out fine. I know some users have had difficulty. Each user also has a unique level of technical skills and patience.

If I don't like product I will simply return it. I have my place pre wired so I'm only going to be packing the NVR and trying it out for few weeks and decide.

FYI - appears similar to the 8 camera kit at Costco, example of a recent deal on that here:

Hi Soby

A few notes on this topic: ( browser plugins, network access )

A lot of issues with browsers and security resulted in many browser based viewers to break with the security updates on browsers. ( a typical issue )

Recently some Dahua OEM firmware iirc is using newer html code for videos, and thus a firmware update may be useful for browser functionality. ( if you pick up this kit, I would check for that update if you don't have the most up to date firmware already installed )

Also 3rd party apps like TinyCam Pro should work as the is a standard rtsp stream available.

So you can use anything which can process a standard rtsp feed.( some opt to use these cameras with Blue Iris for example )

In general with Ubiquiti you get lesser hardware, better software, and pay a significant premium w/regards to the cameras.
