Perhaps I'm confused, but when I see the prices of fitness trackers and cell phones now I'm of the opinion that insanity has struck marketing. Along with this there's a Samsung S20 thread offering them for $1000.

Yeah, I like high tech, but this isn't just jumping the shark. This is jumping the whale.
Because Fenix can do more than just a fitness tracker.

Garmin has Vivo-series band and watches that have lower MSRP, and even lower for refurb.

Then there're the "classic watch" that are sold for hundreds or thousands of dollars that only track time, and only the very expensive and rare ones are worth collecting (dust).

Can someone enlighten me please? I have a Samsung Gear S and I've been wearing it for like 2 years now.
I don't exercise much, tho I should...
I just changed my phone from a note 9 to an iPhone. The Samsung watch works ok mostly but now, it won't recognize when i go on my bike or run a bit... It did before and while I never cared all that much for what it recorded, it was nice to have.
My question is, how would this compare to my Samsung and better yet, how it compares to an apple watch since, that was what I was thinking of getting next...
Thank you!

Damn.. I just purchased a Sam's club membership and went in-store to buy this.. It is NOT the leather band version. Sam's club's app indicates model number ends in 06 but the model they are selling ends in 00, the silicone band version.. I wasn't able to tell this until after I made the purchase so now I have to return it or complain to Sam's club about their mistake hoping to get a GC to offset purchasing a leather band. Silicone is garbage.
How is the experience working out with a leather band? I've often wanted to replace the silicone band on my 935 with a leather band but I would not think the leather would last through sweaty workouts. It would stink too.

In addition, the HR sensor generally doesn't work as well with the leather band. The silicon band give a compromise of comfort and tightness that helps improve HR accuracy.

Given these watches have quick-release bands, the best option if you really want leather would be to buy one separately and they swap between them depending on activity.

It's model 010-01988-00, not the one with leather band

This is basically one of the best if not best fitness/adventure watch line, and like others have said, despite being a generation old it is still just as good as the current models. Apple watch is mainly for day to day use and although has fitness features it isn't as hardcore. You just need to see what you are looking for in features. If you don't really work out I think Apple Watch is best for you. With that said, there's a lot of cheaper options with similar features without the paying extra for the Apple name.

Edit: Forgot to mention that the Apple watch will basically be like the Gear series from Samsung. It's the equivalent but Samsung offers a lot of other lines of their smart watches for budget and fitness. I had the Gear S3 and I loved it but battery life was abysmal.

I have a Fenix 5 I have been using for years. Really solid watch for hikers/backpackers/runners. The battery lasts a LONG time compared to an apple watch...

I've had this for 1.5 years and love it still for the running and smart phone features. Battery life is excellent and even though i didn't opt for the sapphire screen the screen looks brand new. Its a great watch and although it does feel a bit heavier than my previous Garmin and my previous Samsung Frontier smart watch it doesn't take long to get use to it.

Anyone use the music function on a regular basis? Seems there are a lot of watches out there with problematic BT connectivity (esp older gen)

I used the music feature before I upgraded to the 6X Pro and I never had any issues with it.

How does this compare to the refurbished fenix 5x sapphire that was on sell last week?? Of course this is new and all?? Is it worth returning that and getting this or just stick with the 5x?
It's not as good of a deal, the 5x sapphire has a bigger screen/sapphire glass, the only reason this is "better" is because you're able to stream music from it and even that's limited to pre-downloaded stuff. I like listening to streaming radio, so that doesn't matter to me.

$319 on Amazon. I've been using Fenix 3 last few years. Running, cycling, strength, etc. No complaints. Won't replace it until it dies. I only wear it during an activity - wasn't a fan of how my skin was looking after of months of constant wear.

You do realize that your link is to a refurbished one, right? It is not even factory refurbished.

It's also a different model. (Fenix 5X instead of the Fenix 5 Plus which this deal is about)
