This is a pretty solid deal for an awesome watch if you are a runner / cyclist / swimmer. It has nearly all of the features of the most current version (Fenix 6). What it is missing, pulse oximeter, isn't very accurate and kills the battery if you have it on. On my 6x it goes from 18 days to 8-9.

Things that are great:
- Accurate GPS
- Fantastic Garmin data analysis of your workout / exercise
- Ongoing fitness tracking and stats (daily steps, sleep, VO2 Max, TONS of other stuff)
- Durable. Super durable.
- While it isn't a showpiece, it does make a statement - I love the look and it gets tons of compliments (well, I don't have the 5 Plus, but same with both my 5X and 6X).
- Maps, while not perfect, is very handy
- Music onboard makes it super easy to grab some headphones and go run - quick and easy.
- Garmin Pay is great, especially in the COVID era where you don't want to touch anything you don't have too.

Not as good:
- It's fairly heavy. I got used to it very quickly and can't tell the difference. Run marathons with it and no issues at all, but it has more heft than your Timex.
- Maps isn't perfect. Very accurate, but small on that screen and use with buttons can be clunky. That said, if you are in a bind, they work plenty well to get you home safely. No wifi or data needed, just the GPS signal available anywhere outside.
- It is not an Apple Watch. It is a fitness watch. It will give you notifications, but its focus is fitness, not flashy graphics.

I've owned a bunch of Garmins: 305, 620, 645M, 5X, and now 6X. All have been rock solid and reliable. I've only replaced them becuase I'm a gadget junkie and an OCD runner. The 5 Plus is really the sweet spot with some critical features added (music, maps) and only missing a few that aren't a big deal. Thumbs up from me.

I have a skinny arm and owns 5S Plus. It does feel heavy at first but I've adjusted to it after just a couple days, and even wear it going to bed.

The battery on my 5S Plus last at least 6 days; It will have less than 10% left if I can stretch it out to 7. The key to extend the battery life is to NOT get the fancy watch face that triggers display action every second. It could reduce the battery life to 4 days when using them.

I don't have Sapphire glass on my watch, but it's still scratch-free after 1.5 years. I imagine Sapphire works even better.

$399 is a great deal.

How does this compare to the refurbished fenix 5x sapphire that was on sell last week?? Of course this is new and all?? Is it worth returning that and getting this or just stick with the 5x?

5X has a bigger screen, but doesn't have music. There may be a few other differences, but those are the two I might care about if deciding b/w the two. I think big screen outweighs music, but personal choice for sure.

I'd get the 6 for 450.

There's a breakdown of the differences here https://www.runningxpert.com/en/i...fenix5plus

but the big ones are music support and Garmin Pay. For me, the music would definitely be worth it. I love being able to listen to Spotify when I run without my phone. But if you don't care about that, then you're probably better off sticking with your 5X.

I had it for few months. One of the best smart watches out there, but its a PITA to wear it while sleeping - its super bulky. I tried auto exercise recognition while at gym ( in the era when we had open gyms Smilie ), and it not only recognized that I was doing squats, but also was accurate with reps. Only reason I returned it is because I felt its bulky and they weren't updating it with new features like body battery etc.

I keep reading it's bulky and heavy. I've had it since release and it's never felt bulky or heavy. How small are you guys?
