I wonder if these will be upgraded to the newer PID controller soon?

The new versions are listed on Camp Chef's website and the only place I've seen them for sale other than direct was at Home Depot for $599. The model from Dick's seems to be produced just for them and is a little smaller and has a few differences as far as construction, in addition to not having the PID controller.. I think I'm going to wait for the new version even though I think this one from Dick's is a good deal. There's not one close for me to pick-up either which kind of kills the deal a bit personally for me.

I would totally go for the SG Wifi if it ever hits $500.

Got one of these in a previous deal and only used it a few times. For smoking meat it's pretty costly so keep that in mind. I live in Texas and can get the good lumberjack pellets for a good price but a full packer brisket still cost me $20 for one cook. Not knocking these as they have their use but my WSM with a controller is much more cost friendly with the same convenience.

How does it compare to this one with the Gen2 WiFi controller at Sportsman's warehouse? $50 more at $499.

Love Camp chef stoves.

Unfortunately, if its at Dicks, cant go there. They are too anti-American for me. I wouldnt set foot in there.
Your crappy political stance has no bearing in this deal. If you don't want to purchase then just don't purchase.

Looks to be the same except for the Gen 2 controller and the design of the lid. I'd pay the extra 50 for the new controller.

Dicks is a for profit, publicly traded company (DKS on the NYSE). If that is not "American" enough for you, maybe you should pull you self up by your bootstraps and buy enough shares to change their policies to fit your version of "America".... or you could not threadcrap with this nonsense.

If you're going to spend this kind of coin on a smoker, I urge you to consider the masterbuilt gravity fed charcoal smoker over this. You can get it for $425 + tax right now at ace with a coupon floating around the internet.

I purchased a camp chef smoker last year. I use the term smoker lightly. You can literally "smoke" something for 5-6 hours unwrapped, and it will taste like it came out of an electric oven. I sold it for a big loss, bought the masterbuilt, and finally am producing food that tastes like properly smoked BBQ. If you look at the masterbuilt forums on FB, I would say easily 80% or more of the users are previous pellet grill owners who sold/traded because they were disappointed in the smoke flavor.

Nothing against CC, they are a good company and stand behind their products, but burning tiny pellets of wood just doesn't do much for the flavor IMO.

The Sportsman's Warehouse Gen2 Wifi is a no brainer at 50.00 more and it's not just because it's the one I bought LMAO

The Dicks version has no advantage at all and the SW model comes with a window, which I use all the time and the new Gen2 controller is awesome first off it's PID for solid temps and minimal swings but when you set the temp for 350 or less you get to dial in the level of smoke you want 1-10. So I can cool a couple of spatchcock chickens at 350 and set the smoke to 1 if I just want to use it more as a convection oven or 7-8 if I want a smoky flavor. I've used it for baking as well and it works great. I've done pizzas and cookies so far and I hear quiche is supposed to be awesome so we're doing that next.

The app does everything except startup, you can set temp, smoke, shotdown, monitor grill temp and both probe temps remotely. You can also set alerts to let you know when the grill is at temp and when the meat is done which is great when you're sitting on the couch watching TV and drinking a beer.

The app is a little buggy right now the problem I have is that it doesn't handle the hand off from Bluetooth to Wifi when you get out of Bluetooth range, there's supposed to be a fix coming out next week for it per the Camp Chef FB group. Hit me up if you have any questions.

I ordered the DLX 24 from Target a few weeks ago for $449 and it has the new Gen 2 PID controller. Smoker is still listed on Targets website for that price but currently sold out.
