depends on your electricity rate. But yes people are still mining with gpus. for more information check out whattomine.com to see if average pay out is for a gpu or cpu.

a real miner would just buy a big shelf and DYI for less then $50 and put cards on there.

I'm tempted to build a machine learning rig out of these. I need to make sure that PCI bandwidth isn't a big bottleneck though.

There's no way you would need a completely separate PSU to drive LEDs. Actually now I'm curious how many LEDs you would possibly need to be able to need a separate PSU.

Super random question-
Would this work for a Folding @ Home setup (FAH) - I don't see why not, right? Any suggestions or advice?

If you have 0 to no electricity cost and can wait 6 months to a year to make up the price of buying the graphics card. And assume prices are stable or not going down.

You can buy a Radeon 580 for around $200, with 0 electricity cost you can make ~$15 a month. WIth $0.1 /kWh which is pretty average, you're making $6 a month. All of this assuming the price of crypto stays relatively high where it is now.

ASICS are better bang for your buck more than likely, but they're going to be pretty annoying as I think all of them are very loud. But likely have less resale value?

My guess is they probably cost a minimum $300 each? Thats like 44 months just to break even, assuming you can resell them for $200, thats still 30 months.

Seems like cloud compute is a better solution...unless of course you have too much money and/or the need to do that Smilie
