Wow $169.99 at the moment (before sale goes into effect)

0 reviews
Sold and Shipped by Tatung USA Marketplace
seller: "Tatung USA Marketplace" has 66 lifetime Reviews (88% Positive)

further googling seems to show this product is being sold numerous places but not a single review to be found. might be a new item.
quite the discount, but ymmv gamble on quality.

"TATUNG COMPANY OF AMERICA, INC"
"Country of Origin: China"
hmm.

EDIT:
3 YR square trade warranty add on available for $6.99, might take some of the gamble out of it.

OP: How'd you know price ahead of time? they aren't even advertising price now, have to add to cart for price to display? direct communication with Tatung or did Newegg say in an email blast?

These appear to be nearly the same as a T-Fal Actifry....and there are quite a few reviews on those.

Certainly a great price (if it starts as promised in 7 minutes). But...the use of a paddle may make cooking soft things like fish fillets a problem.

Pretty sure Tatung is from Taiwan, but they're pretty well known for their rice cookers/steamers that are pretty quality

Tatung is huge in Taiwan makes lots of electronics and is most well known for its rice cookers and kitchen appliances. Likely this will be a very high quality product.

However, the fact this doesn't have a mesh is concerning... Where would the excess oil go?...

Tatung is Taiwanese company, but their manufacturing facilities are likely in China.

Tatung rice cookers commonly last generations but these air fryers are obviously more complex electronics.

It looks like Tatung Company of America, Inc. is the US subsidiary and is going through Chapter 11 Bankruptcy reorganization, so this deal is probably part of a liquidation.

I'm in for one though... worth a shot.

Looks like the paddle is removable.

Here's the manual for this fryer:

Hmm, I"m considering because the GF has been interested in one. But are they really worth the counter space? Last thing I need is another gadget that only gets used when we want fries...

Center "bunt-cake" thingy makes this device absolutely useless with many foods. Never seen such a ridiculous thing in an air-fryer.

Avoid!

They're well known for their rice steamers, but recently my experience with them has been less than stellar. I bought a water warmer from them because it had stainless steel interior. However, it went bad after a year. Got another one, and then ran into the same problem 1.5 years later.

I have an airfryer toaster oven and it works well. It's probably easier to fit things since the design is different. If you're only putting fries in there it's probably not worth it but if you have other small food it should be worth it since it's practically a convection oven. The nice thing about air fryers in general is that they're smaller than normal ovens so the food gets hit by the heating mechanism more effectively which is why they tend to make things crispier than normal full size convection ovens.

Thanks for the response. Yeah honestly I'm not real interested in fries, but if it's better than normal ovens for stuff, I may go for it. I've been wanting to cook healthier things, so maybe it'll be good for vegetables and such instead of baking them.
