I have this receiver and it is a fantastic one, but it is getting old and I am surprised that it is still $450. Don't get me wrong, this is a great receiver. It's very easy to setup, has great sound, good options, and plenty of inputs and will play everything you throw at it, but I got it new for $300 two years ago.

I just bought this receiver from best buy and returned it because it came with a huge dent and ironically it comes back in stock few days after I return it. Not sure if I'll get the same open box back 😬

I have this receiver, it is a great receiver but watch for $300 deal. It sounds good with efficient speakers like sony core series that sell for 50% off fairly regulary. The advertised wattage is highly exaggerated, 165w at 6ohm. Total rated wattage is 240w at the wall plug. DH790 is a good option as well and occasionally goes on sale for $200

$300 deal was once on Black Friday (as far as I can see but please correct me if I'm wrong). How does the DH790 compare to the 1080? Really interested in this receiver because of the price vs performance.

The 1080 is getting old but still a great receiver. I also own a dh790 for small home theater running 4 sscs5, 1 sscs8, 2 sony atmos. DH790 is a great value for the feature and price. Does NOT have the on screen features of the 1080 but supports all the latest formats and powerful enough running efficient speakers.

If you can get a 1080 for $360 or below i say its worth it but take a good look at the dh790 as well.

Looks like all the Sony Core series is on sale as we speak. Tried to price out the 5.1.2 Atmos setup (with 4 bookcase speakers, 2 elevation speakers, one center and one sub) - total comes out to $424.95 (@ Best Buy). Wonder how that setup would compare to the Monoprice 5.1.2 system for $249 (https://www.monoprice.com/product?p_id=33831; seen on sale for less than 200 at some point).

Greater receiver for starter or intermediates, but not at this price.

Ended up getting the 1080 for $340 (taxes included) - thanks for the advice, set it up this afternoon and was blown away with the sound stage. I also have a denon x4500h, but this is going to run my second living room. Bought the infinity center and surrounds that were on sale. The setup was a breeze and even my wife was surprised with the enveloping sound in a 5.1.2 setup.

Nice! That's a good price for the 1080.
