5G won't be everywhere with sufficient speeds for a long time.
5G is already available where I live, so it does matter to some.

So I need a new iPhone given my current 6S Plus has a broken camera, but it seems like not much of a deal to save a couple hundred bucks compared to the releases this fall.

$400 maybe.

If you intend to keep this phone for over a year, I really recommend you purchase something 5G compatible. As long as you live in a city, you will be able to use 5G very soon.

I've had this phone for close to 2 years now (since it first came out). I do not recommend this if you have smaller hands, and if you MUST have a big phone, get yourself a pop socket. I'm somebody who upgrades every time there's a new phone but honestly, the iPhone 11 is nothing special compared to this phone. Iphone11 was actually a disappointment and there was nothing really exciting to make me want to upgrade. The wide camera is cool but I only saw it beneficial for selfie mode, which is not capable of. I would definitely go with this max and save myself the 300-400 and not upgrade.

Not bad for a new device. If you want to cheap out, go to sprint and get it for 499 for a preowned unit plus cashback using many cashback sites.

I would argue that both are high-end smart phone brands with little price difference between them. Both brands have phones that cover the low, mid, and high-end spectrum. My S20 Ultra 5G has an MSRP of $1,399 or something ridiculous.
When looking at a 1.5+ year old phone in this case, the price drop would be significant for a Samsung compared to the iPhone XS Max's $300 drop from a $1K original retail price.

Good example was the S10e which dropped to $350 pretty soon after release. But, I agree that both brands have their premium variants and Apple just stepped into the low end back with its redesigned iPhone 8 aka iPhone SE 2020.

You may find the Samsung ones cheaper than iPhone in general. Really depends on your budget and preference. Looks like you are open to both Android and iOS.
Yes open to both even tho I like android ecosystem a little better. But I love iPhones cameras. Samsungs photos have always looked artificially enhanced to me.

Because it's unlocked and discounted. Doesn't happen everyday.

Almost sold out

I bought a 256 GB and 64 GB Space Gray.

gold and silver don't have 64 or 256 anymore.

shipping is $6 if your woot isn't linked to an Amazon Prime account .. .don't waste time worrying about $6 if you're not yet linked just buy buy buy hahahaha

Nothing to justify a $1400 price tag.
