I don't have this brand, but I jumped on the Eddie Bauer version a few weeks back. I always used regular backpacks on trips and they were heavy, hot and sweaty.

Just tried the Eddie Bauer pack last week and it's a world of difference. SO much better if you have to actually wear the pack for any amount of time (vs just carrying some things to a location then removing it). It's super light and much cooler on your back.

18L is not a normal sized backpack though. I have the 30L and 20L from Eddie Bauer. The 30L is a normal sized pack, the 20L is smaller (they call it a "Day Pack" I believe...). This 18L might hold a few essentials but don't expect it to have as much space as your college Jansport.

No. These likely come with straps. If you look at the packed bag picture, it shows strap tops. Unfortunately they don't do a good job of showcasing the backpack with pictures of the other side.

I recently bought a $9.99 35L nylon backpack at amazon with the same characteristics.

Are these better or worse than those $10 backpacks?

18L is a joke and (based on pictures) this one is much worse that Eddie Bauer, I have 2 of their 20L packs. Straps on this one are transparent, on EB - soft.

Got the pathway 50 L internal frame for $52.25. Can't go wrong at that price.
