Unfortunately, you won't know whether or not you're sick until 5-10 days after you are infectious. So in the absence of a really reliable soothsayer, wearing a mask is the responsible thing to do.
Exactly. They're saying about 30% cases are asymptomatic. Studies coming out showing if everyone wore a mask we could reduce spread by 70%. These are primarily to protect others from you. So if everyone is staying one, chances of viral droplets getting in the air is minimal. It's like saying i should have the freedom to drive as I please and ignore all traffic laws and traffic lights. No, those rules are there to protect us so people don't run a red light and crash. I don't like wearing a mask either, but I don't want to be responsible for infecting someone.
I cut a pair of cotton boxer briefs in half to make two masks. I pull a leg over my head and the stretch of the fabric is enough to hold it up. Someone asked me, where do you put the skid mark? And I said, in the back, where it came from, of course!

But yesterday was the first time I used one of these disposable face coverings. What it has over what I've been using, is a bendable strip at the top so that my glasses don't fog when I exhale. And...the disposable is lighter weight and more comfortable.

So I bought a box today, with no illusions about what it does/doesn't do. And...no skid mark!

Why do people buy this type of mask?

It isn't going to seal or stop particles like an n95 with proper fit, so really its just a face covering to stop your sneezes and coughs from blowing a big cloud in the air. So in that way it's exactly as good as a piece of cloth or bandana .. so.. why not just wear some cloth or bandana? They are cheap and easy to buy / make and washable & reusable .

I wear these on top of n95 mask and reuse the n95 mask next time by putting a new one like this on top when I go out

My take on masks.

If you are sick, stay home, you don't need a mask.

If you go to any local CVS... go to the minute clinic they give these out for free. They're not N-95 or KN-95 masks though.

They actually did a study between the n95 and regular paper mask in a hospital that was treating flu patients and its only like a couple of percent difference in infection rate.

If you are sick, stay home, you don't need a mask. If you are scared, stay home, you don't need a mask. The government has no business regulating citizens to make them wear masks. I do respect the right of private property owners to require masks for you to enter their PRIVATE PROPERTY, no matter how silly wearing a mask might be.

Unfortunately their is a private property owner (university) that I very much desire to be on their property, so I must get masks for that. This is the cheapest delivered I have seen since this kicked off, but I might wait it out, I have until mid August to have things straight.
you act like everyone can afford to stay home if they're scared
