DeWalt Brushless 4 Tool Combo with Circular Saw $269

I was thinking about the other Dewalt combo here on slickdeals and noticed a 4 tool combo. I needed a circular saw to cut some lumber, so thought this is a better combo for my purpose. I bought it and posting it here to get your expert opinion on it to see if this a good deal or not. Thanks.

Much better deal out there like this: $299 with Hammer Drill, Circular Saw and both 9Ah and 2Ah batteries.

Hammer Drill is much better the regular drill anyway.

Which would be better for someone who hasn't invested in a battery/tool system yet. That 299 hammer drill/circ saw deal + 85.00 Atomic Recip, or that new Kobal XTR 5-tool combo (seen some really awesome reviews of the XTR line so far) for 399? (Includes recip, hammer drill, impact drill, circ saw, very nice led light, 2.0ah battery and 4.0ah ultimate battery) The price, after tax and 5% lowes discount for the lowes card is around the same, but I am getting an impact drill and a nice led light above and beyond the dewalt deals.

I agree with Alexlzl. This is an ok deal, but probably not a SD. If you're looking for the saw, Alex's link is much better (though more expensive because you don't get the impact driver and flashlight - you can pickup these up for roughly $100 total through offerup or ebay.) But the flexvolt 9ah battery (included in Alexlzl's link) makes up the extra $100 if you decide to buy the impact and flashlight, and the hammerdrill is the 796 which is much better than the 777 drill. But most importantly, the newly released DCS578 circular saw (in Alexlzl's link) is LEAGUES above the DCS570. Plus the batteries in this kit won't really run the DCS570 for very many cuts.

Alternatively, the Lowes 5 tool combo for $269 is a much better deal because instead of the Circ saw, you get both the multi-tool and the random orbit sander, both of which individually retail for about the same ($10 less?) as the circ saw.

Hope this was helpful. And if you're just looking for a circular saw to make a couple cuts a year, disregard everything I said and this is a reasonable deal. (I clearly have too much time on my hands!)

Also, for what it's worth, I own many of the different Dewalt LED lights, but I don't own the 040 flashlight. It just seams not that useful compared to the DCL050 (I own 3). At this point I can't understand how I existed/worked before the DCL050, so if you're actually looking for a dewalt work light, check it out. (but it isn't a traditional circle beam flashlight)

I personally went with the $299 set because it comes with a 60v flexvolt saw + 9ah battery. That alone costs $299 in stores. The 796 XR hammer drill is better than this 777. You get a impact driver, but I'd rather look on CL or Offerup for a 887 over the 787 in this deal. With the flexvolt battery you will be future proofing yourself when you need 60v tools.

The $299 deal offers the top of the line vs middle quality in this deal. But obviously it costs more.

I agree with sye46. Yes you get more with the Kobalt 5-tool combo, but I'll bet that on (ebay, offerup, marketplace) you could trade the flexvolt 9ah battery for a dewalt 887 +3ah battery. This leaves you with Dewalt brushless quality (and a ridiculously amazing circ saw) for the same price as kobalt, (but kobalt threw in an LED light).

JMTC.

edit: Just to be clear, you will need a 60v "flexvolt" battery to operate the Flexvolt Circular saw, so you can't actually trade it away unless you have others.

Thank you, that is a great way to break it down. One thing though, the circular saw is a 60v, if I traded away the battery, the circ saw wouldn't run on regular 20v battery right?

According to this article [acmetools.com] at Acme Tools:
Quote :
DeWalt 20v MAX batteries can't be used in FlexVolt 60v and 120v MAX tools, however. The lower voltage doesn't provide enough juice for the high-demand motors.

DeWalt is very confusing. When they call a tool "Flexvolt" what they actually mean is that it is not flexible at all and only works with a 60v battery, not a 20v battery.

Sorry for the confusion. Yes, you need a 60v battery to operate any flexvolt tool, so you shouldn't actually trade the battery away (unless you already have some). I was trying to help compare the value of the different deals, but in hindsight recognize that my comment might be confusing. Now edited.
