Don't really know too much about PCs but is this any good for a starter pc ? the only bad thing I could see is it only has a 256 gb ssd

Not bad, but the staples deal for the Lenovo might be a little better in my opinion.

This is a good deal. Unfortunately for me, literally two days late.

A friend had a $700 budget and I did what I could but he's getting an i3, 1660, 1tb SSD.

The PC in this deal crushes it performance wise for maybe forty dollars more (tax).

Yes, it is a solid starter PC. MSI produces good products usually. I definitely prefer AMD ryzen processors, but this one will get the job done.
This computer is like a brand new v6 sports car. It won't be competing in any performance tests with v8 computers, but you can still race it and have fun with it.
Graphics card isn't phenomenal, but will get the job done as well

I've bought one fairly similar to this except it's had a Radeon 580 instead of the gtx and it was probably about $50 more so seeing if this was a better deal

This Nvidia is more powerful. If everything else was the same I would tell you this is more powerful. Feel free to send a link to the other one and I'll give you a better answer

Yes the GTX 1660 super is significantly newer & faster (21%) than the 580. If you paid more for the 580 then this is the better deal, no doubt.

Decent video card but the 8gb memory and only 256gb ssd is kind of underwhelming. This same model sells for $900 on best buy's website so not a a bad deal per se.
