Great deal OP. My manual unit broke and my sprinkler guy installed the Hunter Pro for $250. Wondering which is the better unit, regardless of price.

If you happen to live in Sacramento CA the SMUD energy store sells these for $24.99 to SMUD customers...

What is the difference between this controller and the much less expensive Orbit B-hyve one?
I have orbit and I really liked it and it covers all the extra cables. Till now I don't have any problem and I did not figure out any difference except no of supporting zones.

Rachio uses more weather data compared to the B-Hyve for better accuracy when detecting rainfall. It also has a yard map feature where you can draw a on a google earth rendering of your property and place the sprinkler heads. With that being said I still went with the B-Hyve. It has been spot on with the weather and sends me a 24 hour rain delay the day before it rains (sometimes before even I know it will rain). As someone else mentioned this will ultimately depend on how close you are to it's selected weather station. I went with the B-Hyve because the app for the BHyve got better ratings. I just got burned by Skydrop which was a royal piece of junk when they said they needed to charge subscription fees for the app and running scheduling and I found out the entire company went bankrupt. I went with B-Hyve because I knew it would be very hard for Orbit to go out of business since they are a pretty big company and even are involved in the commercial agro sector. Furthermore the B-Hyve has local control as well with a screen and knobs so you will have that option if your WiFi ever goes haywire. In the 1 year I have had the B-Hyve I have had 0 issues. It does what it needs for the most part. I also looked into the Rainbird but went with the B-Hyve since it was available at my local Lowe's and about $40 cheaper.
Do you get sound notification with B-Hyve? I tried to set up + sound but only get notification on screen bar but no sound. Other than that, love the unit.

Yes when it detects a rain delay or the program is finished (manual or scheduled) I get a notification with sound on my iPhone. It plays the default iOS notification noise. Maybe try looking into the app settings and iPhone settings.

I am VERY HAPPY with my Orbit B-hyve. You can take picture of zones, has auto rain delay, all the features.

It does everything I needed and has on device control. Not everything need to be controlled via a smart phone and some times you just want to override stuff manually.

The only regret I had was not installed it sooner. Also the wifi signal sometimes doesn't work well(especially at set up time, after that rarely happens)

I don't see why need to pay 2x for Rachio. But I think it's like compare Honeywell Thermostat with Nest, you pay more for the cool factor.

For me, not having homekit is the deal breaker. Orbit has been promising it for years, but I've lost faith in them to get it done.

It's 50% more, not 2x. And it has features that the other doesn't - like homekit. It's more than just "cool factor" for some people.

Well B-Hyve can often be had for $80 (for 12 zones), 8 zone can be had for less.
MSRP $109 vs $229 is 2x.

I ended up buying the b-hyve smart sprinkler controller, the one with a screen like a normal old sprinkler controller. I got burned by Skydrop (I upgraded to the Skydrop arc from their original unit right before they went out of business) and I wanted to have an easy backup plan in case the cloud went down for a long period of time, or they went out of business. I know most of the other smart sprinkler controllers have some way to manually turn on a zone, but they can't be converted into an old school sprinkler controller like the orbit b-hyve can and have multiple programs and schedules.

This or the Costco deal? The Costco model has exclusive yard mapping capabilities, is it worth it? I don't need the extra zones that Costco model has.
