After being in this hobby for over 10 years, I'm still confused why cartridge based filters like these are still being used. They don't come with any media which is the most important part! You also shouldn't have to "throw away" and "buy more" items to sustain an aquarium. Not only is it a waste of money, but you are also hindering the beneficial bacteria that is trying to grow inside your filter.

If anyone buys these tanks I would without question recommend getting an Aquaclear filter that has both a washable/reusable sponge and media bags. If you do not buy a different filter than I encourage you to at least buy a bag of media to keep at the bottom of the filter. This will help sustain your beneficial bacteria that is keeping your fish alive, when you throw away a cartridge to clean.
I've been running two of the 5.5 gallon tanks for about 2 years and haven't had any problems with them. It's really easy to cut filters out of bulk media for this filter. The filter does stick out quite a bit but does a good job and has adjustable flow. You could always run a small sponge filter if the look bothers ya. I like how they used black silicone instead of clear cuz it kinda gives the tank a nice framed look. Led light could be a bit brighter but it get the job done just fine.
That's just for the first 3 months. After it grows a half inch ya gotta go with a 200.

That's a great price for a five gallon. Note that 5 gallons aren't eligible for PetCo's $1/gal sale and usually run about $15-20 just for the tank alone.

Can "Low Stock" at PetSmart can still be ordered for pickup, or does it mean I'll get an email telling me they couldn't find the item in store?

If anyone can help me find a deal on some rocks, filter, plants, and 1 cave ornament it would be helpful. Have a 50 gallon acrylic hexagon tank I want to out back into use for some cichlids. I have no idea what is a good price now a days.

Just as a heads up, PetSmart has a competitor coupon policy. They will take basically any coupon from Petco, Pet Supplies Plus, and other pet stores in your area!

Low stock means in stock but low quantity, so you can buy online for a pickup.

I use pillow fiber as filter. Cheap and effective.
