Going to try this out. I love my Aeropress, but it's harder to use after I became disabled. I always liked my French press, except for chewing coffee grounds at the end.

That's 2.5 levels of filtration, if anything.

Glass french press doesn't work too well. Temp drops too fast to make a decent brew. Not to mention the fragility.

Highly recommend double wall stainless, not much more expensive, around $20

Great point about temperature drop, as I also like my coffee hot. But you can't see through steel, so unless you have measured the amount of hot water being poured in, you can really mess up the grind:water ratio which for me is worse than a couple of degree temp drop.

Good point about glass fragility too; I know I've broken the all glass bodum, hence decided to get this with some steel protection while still able to see the water level. Bottom line, don't put near loose metal dishes in dishwasher that will rattle against the glass or just hand wash.

Caution, the metal is not fully ground and smooth on all edges, but nothing dangerous.

The double mesh does a great job keeping the grounds out. Love the lifetime replacement warranty.

I put my bodum french press in the dishwasher occasionally. Just don't put things near it. The glass separates from the metal retainer easily. Works fine. It is boroscillate and on Bodum's FAQ is says it is dishwasher safe.

I find the easiest way to clean a french press is to just have a nearby strainer. Takes seconds for a quick clean, and then i do a deep clean (with bottle brush, or dishwasher) every few days: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nyKTStFSNFQ

So...we're in agreement then?

These things are so easy to clean I can't imagine a reason to potential destroy it in a dishwasher.
I use one of those synthetic sponges-on-a-stick that you can get at any dollar shop...its a painless cleanup in 20-30 seconds.

while this is a pretty serving model, i would not get it as a french press.

the best ones are double walled stainless steel, not some glass hybrid.
i use my press daily, and you want something that will maintain high
temps during your 3-4 minute press cycle, and you want something
you can add a paper filter to should the metal filters not be enough.
(this can happen when your press ready course grounds get dusty)
when you add paper filter to a press it greatly increases the tension
between the press and container walls - you won't want glass here.
