Not a bad deal. This is the quad core 4908 variant of their AC4000 routers (Archer v3). The C4000 v3 made for retail has a dual core 4906.

Good thing grabbed it at Costco yesterday at $130, some might be able still order it there.

Ignore this:
~~That's the C4000 which is the dual core.~~

See further down that this device is 4 cores and so is the Costco one.

Totally depends on your needs. A basic one like the front page TP-link Archer works for smaller houses or apartments. Multi floor can benefit from mesh routers.

Is this the same as the router available for $159.99 at Office Depot?

That is not true. They're literally the same device. This Newegg deal is not slick at all.

Besides the link below explaining this, I literally have the box in my lap right now.

Good info, looks like some of us were confused.

Thanks for the clarification!

Negative C4000 v3 has a 4906 per FCC pics. The TPLINK rep is wrong. lol

https://fccid.io/TE7C4000V3/Inter...-1-4280598

Look at the marketing material on both the A20 and C4000. C4000 removes any mention of a quad core CPU deceptively. I made a post in the same thread you linked lol

So yes. c4000v3 is 4906 dual core, A20 is 4908 Quad.

C4000 v1/v2 yes they're quad but I doubt youre going to find one in the current market.

So you say that rep is wrong or the multiple reps I their site are wrong? How about the box for the Archer C4000 which clearly shows and states one primary and three co-processors?

Nothing is ommitted as you state on this packaging or on their website. Whatever material you're reading is for a different product.

Just take the L and move on, you're wrong.

Broadcom (chip manufacturer) internally markets the radios as co-processors (they have cores clocked at "x" speed). TPLink just uses this as a marketing move.

I clearly linked proof of the V3 having a 4906 which is a confirmed dual core Broadcom design. I don't know how I can make it any more clear, but I guess your ego is fragile.

TPlink literally removed any mention of a quad core on their C4000 V3 box/website unless you own a v2 which does have the 4908.

Edit: Actually I might be wrong. Seems the A20 v3 was recently also changed to a dual core 4906 as they removed any mention of the CPU being a quad on the product page within this past month. Newegg still has old marketing pictures if you wanna see them..

FYI the A20 V1 used to say "Ultra-Fast Processing--An 1.8 GHz 64-bit dual-core CPU handles all your processing needs" Now its.. "Ultra-Fast Processing: An 1.8 GHz 64-bit quad-core CPU handles all your processing needs" for the same A20 v1 tab lol

A20 V3 used to claim quad core, now its just "Ultra-Fast Processing: An 1.8 GHz 64-bit CPU handles all your processing needs"

C4000 v3 has been the same "Ultra-Fast Processing: An 1.8 GHz 64-bit CPU handles all your processing needs" for months now.

New marketing material

Unfortunately the current PDF for C4000 is still "V2" which indicates a quad 4908 (FCC pics back this up). I understand the confusion, but you're wrong about the current version having that same quad core cpu. Its a 4906 (dual core) and marketing material was adjusted because of it.

I'll clarify that both the A20 and C4000 are now dual core designs (or "penta core" if you're broadcom). TPLink is simply deceptive with marketing material since they've used both the 4906/4908 interchangeably (Same design, 2 less cores). That's all.

Edit 2: You can claim that I was wrong about the A20 v3 being a quad core and thats a legitimate argument, but its clearly not my fault if TPIink marketing either is misleading customers or trying to cover up the fact that the CPU got downgraded and or upgraded over time depending on version number.

I'd assume they messed up the A20 v1 a few months ago and meant to change the V3 page V1/v2 for both the C4000/A20 were likely quad core 4908. V3 has likely always been 4906 per FCC ID.

I'm assuming this is better than my Linksys EA8500 router?? My 2 boys and I play online games all at the same time, all hardwired, and once my wife starts Netflix, crashes everything.

Your EA8500 has the same Atheros chipset as the Netgear r7800 which is a very good AC router. Your problem when Netflix is on, was probably caused by your ISP plan, not your router.
