my thought is always go with a watch company instead of a fashion company
The 2824-2 in the Certina is a 4hz movement, which is definitely going to give you a nice sweep. Most entry level Seiko and Tissot (many with modified 2824 movements for longer power reserve but slower beat rate) have 3hz movements. This watch is probably one of the cheapest (and best value IMO) ways to get the smooth sweep you want.

This is all assuming you aren't looking to spend at least $5k on a Grand Seiko spring drive for the smoothest sweep. Could look into the Bulova Precisionist collection but they're typically huge. Bulova also has the Accutron collection but the style is quite different and eccentric

38mm!

Not familiar with this brand, can any fellow SDers comment on it? Looks like a legit ETA movement...

Yeah I have two Certina and love them. They punch way above their weight. They're part of swatch group so are very legit. I say on par with or a little better than Tissot. This is an excellent deal IMO. Have had no issues with mine and fit and finish is on par with a $1k watch.

i have a similar Certina and it keeps better time than my Omega. I did have some issues w it (the crown) and had to send it in while it was under warranty (i did not get from Joma). this is a great price though this watch is worth 500+

Absolute steal at this price.

Certina, Mido, and Glycine punch way above their price points.

First time seeing anything about this brand but I am really digging that watch. Especially the silver dial one. Thanks for posting OP. I will keep an eye out for Certina in the future.

Edit: I would buy it now, but I just bought a Jetson Bolt for around the same price and although they both aren't in the same category (electric scooter/ e bike versus a watch), the wife would probably be upset. I also just bought a citizen watch not too long ago and she would count that as too recent to buy another... although I've never been given a timeframe for when I can buy another and I'm not sure what's appropriate for a happy, healthy marriage.

Any thoughts on how this compares to the latest Calvin Klein ETA 2824-2 watch for $119 on here? I see they both have sapphire crystal for scratches at level 8 and deeper grooves at level 9.

I don't own any watches so deeply considering one of these 2 for dress watches. Any help would be appreciated!

these routinely go on sale for 200s at Joma so don't feel pressured if you're not ready!

Is there a massive difference in build quality? I'm not really a flashy "look at my brands" type of guy so in terms of pricing the CK is more appealing considering they have similar specs, but if there is a genuine difference in build quality between a fashion company watch (CK, Gucci, etc) and a real watch company like Seiko or Tissot then I'll definitely go for this one.

Or if anyone has the time here (Google isn't always reliable) are there any other >$300 watches to look into? Mostly looking for that badass sweeping motion and gotta have sapphire because having never owned a watch before I'm most likely gonna be hitting it when turning a corner or random reaching out for things situations.

Thanks everyone in advance, sorry for the unnecessarily long comment

I don't own any watch from Certina, but it's a 100+ year old Swiss watch company with a bit of interesting history if you care to read about it.

They make quite a few pieces with COSC chronometer certifications though I doubt any of these have them.

Good watches for the price point if you like the style. Easy to service/replace movement and a sapphire crystal

Like a little Lego....?

Definitely take the Certina over the CK. Having followed one of the CK deals out of curiosity, a good number of enthusiasts who bought it for the price returned it. Many mentioned fit and finish of the case, dial, and strap being subpar.

As far as a dress watch is concerned, the sizing for the Certina at 38mm is also more fitting for most people. Unless you have gargantuan wrists, the more subtle 38mm is perfect.

Badass sweeping motion? The only mechanical watch with badass sweeping motion I know off is seiko's spring drive, though it's still partially quartz and caries a 4 digit tag. It's a patented and unique movement that took 30 years to develop!! And it is extremely accurate. For $300, look at Bulova 262khz line. It also has a sweeping second hand motion which is pretty cool. Obviously it's all quartz.

Certina is miles ahead of Calvin Klein. that badass sweeping motion you refer to is due to the automatic movement, so you'd want to search this. if u want a dress watch at low cost id look into the Orient Bambino you might like it.
