It depends how you look at it. The $400 bonus is actually around $280 (Estimate based on 24% tax bracket)

If you have $200K just sitting in a savings account anyway, then earning a post-tax bonus of about $800 isn't bad.
Dropping 200k only to make $400 more isn't smart. Better off chase another bank bonus or invest it. Stick with $400 bonus for only 15k deposit.

Yeah, not the greatest, but if it was only going to sit in the other savings account anyway then it's $800 more than it would have been. Plus, with rates continuing to drop, the return on the savings account is only going downhill.

Are you aware of any other bank bonuses? I've already done HSBC, CIT, Discover, Capital One, and now Citi. Not sure what other ones are out there that are worth doing.

My balls haven't dropped low enough to go to the stock market, mostly because I'm not really familiar with it. Don't know what I'm doing...

Is there a household limit? Planning to drop $50k each for me and wife in separate accounts... that way we get $1400 pre-tax bonus. Savings rate in other banks is very poor..

If you have a Citi Double Cash credit card ( I have 5 different cards with them, only this is eligible), then you get 500$ instead of 400 for 15K deposit.
In addition you also get .25% extra cash back on the card making it 2.5% cash back on all purchases.
Making it one of the best free cards with all 2.5% cash back with this offer.

Still trying to determine if it's ok for the 25% extra cash back to downgrade the checking account to basic checking after getting the $500 bonus (to reduce minimum balance requirement from $10k to 1.5K).

The only one worth doing is the $400 bonus. The rest isn't worth it.
You have a point there. $400 might be the best option.

Is there any downfall from opening a new checking account with them for the $400 or $700 bonus, and then closing the account 3 months later?

Anyone get this offer in their snail mail box? I have old school parents who may do this if they get the offer that way.
I did about a week ago in New York.

First Foundation is VERY slow to change rates, which is great
As I said before, they were at 2% for a while Ally and others were at ~ 1.6%
I have accounts at both Comenity and First Foundation. Have not had any problems with Comenity customer service in the past. FFB is good with rate changes but transfer limits are bad, meaning only 10k allowed per day and only 30k in 30 days. In case you want to move money out quickly to another account - thats not feasible online unless you do a wire. Comenity also has an outbound limit of 10k per day but they are pretty fast in processing them. Inbound limits are pretty high if there is one.

Vio bank is the highest right now at 1.35%. I only use Ally bank for transfers since they are the quickest. Ally bank is like my ACH nerve center everything goes through them. I never rely on host bank for ACH
