what are people choosing? My membership was to end sometime in March so I was thinking of buying another 2 years and adding my buddy for a year. Any thoughts?

Great so they're actively trying to get more people to enter gyms that will have limited number of people allowed to enter.

Also they're planning on entering bankruptcy protection so think twice before locking yourself in long term.

I think if you have a consistent buddy who has the same schedule as you, I'd go for the one year offer.

The buddy offer is a better offer if someone will consistently use it. Possibly even "split" your membership cost for that year with them since paying half (or whatever portion you decide on) of yours will certainly be less than they'd be paying otherwise.

The buddy offer means they always have to go with you to get in.

My reading comprehension skills are just fine, thank you. 90% of the time I go to the gym I go with the same friend so I'd happily pay 50% of the cost, even if it only covers that 90% of the time and not the other 10%. Only works well if you two go consistently anyways, otherwise yes someone is getting hosed and should only pay accordingly.

A bit ironic that they're giving buddy pass away for a year. Now they're going to have even more people in the gym and it'll make infection transmission even more prevalent.

What I hope they do is establish a pause feature, maybe up to 6-9 months, where people can keep their prepaid memberships on pause (even after the clubs open) before restarting the membership and returning to the gym.

I certainly wouldn't want to return to the gym right when it opens. There are too many people that don't take social distancing/masking seriously due to their political agenda, not to mention it'll probably be hard to wear a mask and do cardio.

Prior to the closure, cleanliness at 24hr did not seem to be a top priority for the employees, so unless they really step up their disinfectant game, I'd be wary of going back immediately.

My local 24hr fitness had really gone downhill in the past 5 years and was just downright gross...$20/yr membership from over a decade ago was the only reason I kept it. If this means they have to step up their cleaning game, then it could be a good thing.

I doubt it. If they do, it will be for appearance and not done like it should. There are several locations near me and they're all filthy.

I've been a member of 24 off and on for the last 15 years and it's a pretty consistent pattern. They'll open a new location, lure people with the clean facilities, then defer maintenance until it's painfully obvious. Then they'll either open another location nearby where the pattern repeats, or if that's not possible, they'll magically declare a location a super-sport and charge more for access to the same old equipment.

Read the news, they are filing for bankruptcy and seeking possible restructure with debt to equity exchange. Doubt the service will be good.

Confined space, lots of people breathing heavily, air conditioning circulating the virus, no thanks.
