  • Condition Details: We're listing these as "Refurbished", but the boxes will be marked "Used - Very Good". These units will have minor cosmetic blemishes and have been returned, inspected, and restored to fully working condition by an Amazon technician. The units have been repackaged in a brown box.

From myanth:
"For epub files, rename the file extension to .png and email to Kindle and it will convert it for you. No middleware involved."
"it seems the only issue is you don't get the cover icon, just text in Kindle."

It is (and had been for a very long time) $10 cheaper on ebay:

How well are these going to hold up? They're already 6 years old. I feel like the $60 new kindle is the way to go.
I just don't understand why people have an issue with the "Special Offers". They only appear when you aren't using the Kindle. Some give the impression that while you are reading a book, an ad pops up. That simply isn't true.

My experience with 'special offers' was terrible. For the first few years it wasn't bad. I don't mind receiving commercials for books I may like to read. However, with an aging Kindle Paperwhite, I was getting error and reboots with almost every ad. While people say it's 'easy' to get Amazon to take off 'special offers', my experience was not easy. They were intent on charging $20 to turn off special offers on 2013 Paperwhite worth $30 after sending me 7 years worth of 'special offers'.

I didn't realize it's been this long. I bought mine from AWD in 2017. But Amazon was selling them new until August 2018. So they don't have to be all 6 years old (not quite 6 either).

I got mine new in 2017 and it's worked like a champ. I've considered upgrading to the oasis several times but I can never bring myself to trade this little guy in!

Yes, the lines and dots on both sides are buttons, more like touch sensors...

ah nice, thank you. I really prefer not having to touch the actual screen.

Huh. I wonder if the ones on eBay have the onscreen ads or not.

Is the text resolution any better than a Paperwhite? any improvement in actual reading experience? seems both are 300 dpi. Have an older gen paperwhite, wonder if it's a worthwhile upgrade or better off with a brand new model?
