I have this smoker - if you're interested in smoking but don't want to invest too much money into a higher-end set-up, this will work perfect for you. The electronic temperature setting works great, it's large enough for several butts, doesn't take up a ton of room on your patio - overall, two thumbs up.
After my first couple of smokes I purchased a Meath thermometer and smoke tube on Amazon - highly recommend these products as they make the process MUCH easier.
Not a bad deal. Just the brisket you put in there might cost as much as the smoker
Good starter smoker. You won't get high temps so you can't speed things up if you need to or crisp up turkey skin. But very set and forget.

As is it works pretty good. I did the mailbox mod in mine for a pellet tray so it can smoke for 8-10 hours unattended. Great for overnight. It struggles a bit with more than one pork shoulder (10lb each). Also have done 4 racks of baby backs at a time, great for that. Turkey comes out amazing if you are okay the skin not bring crispy. Best was when I did poor mans burnt ends at the same time as the turkey and had the burnt ends for an appetizer.

Got mine for Walmart a couple years ago for $45. Have spent more on the pellet tray, thermometers etc. I'm ready to upgrade to a pellet grill for a few reasons.

Why the need for a smoke tube? Insufficient smoke without? Thanks for the post.

I posted this on a previous thread.

Check out this video.

I think I am going to seal mine up... And may mod a higher chimney so the smoke/moisture is not venting near the circuit board. Or for starters, watch the wind and place appropriate so smoke and moisture is not blowing @ the controller.

I have only used once, but had great results.

I sealed, and easily added about a 7 inch chimney using 3 inch vent pipe. Exhaust is not spewing @ control panel now.

I used 3 inch metal vent couplers (2, stacked), which are crimped at both ends. The crimped sides will rest inside the existing smoke vent and function but be loose. To improve, put a bead of high heat black caulk around pipe so it slides in snug and stays put. I recommend high heat black caulk for controller also.

Note, chimney is not permanent, just slides in. No caulk applied to chimney area of smoker - all is on vent pipe.

The built in chip tray works great at producing smoke, you just have to replace the wood every 30-45 minutes.
The smoke tube is much more convenient as it smokes for 4-5 hrs after being lit; makes the process much easier.

My last Masterbuilt ES similar to this only last 6-7 cooks before it stopped smoking the chips. It would create an initial light smoke then stop only charring the chips not burning them. Did some research but couldn't find a remedy. Now im hesitant to purchase another. Decent deal on this none the less.

Any way to use this with the Camp Chef Pellet Grill Jerky Rack* while saving up for a nicer smoker?

Mostly agree. I replace chips about once an hour. I do a lot of stuff over night so with a smoke tube or A-MAZE-N [amazon.com] tray you don't have to babysit it.

The tray has its own head aches though. Its a process to get it started (I you check suggest you check out on youtube before buying).

A digital electric electric is the way to go. You will find other Masterbuilt electric smokers cheaper but they are manual. For those, its up to you to regulate the heat. This version holds the temp for you. I still recommend a dual prob thermometer no matter what you get. This link is to athermopro [amazon.com].
