Totally agree -- as I understand it, in this case HK releases the firmware updates not Google.

Those of us with the abandoned Invokes from HK know this all too well. But, a lot of us on SD paid $40 for those and they're still amazing as Bluetooth speakers. If I'm dropping $229 I'd want better software/firmware support.
My only comment is to seriously consider that, historically, 3rd party Google speakers don't get all the new features...

Ordered one. I watched a teardown video on YouTube of this unit and it looks like a beast. Huge magnets on the 5 inch woofers and a massive passive radiator on the back.

Gosh darnit I wish they'd add a $5 Ethernet port to these speakers. Good price but I'd get the Google Home Max for this price personally. No doubt this HK probably sounds better but it's that pros/cons list we each have to consider.

I've really been thinking about selling my Sonos One and getting a Google Home Max. This sounds like it destroys them both (bad pun). Any reason why I should avoid it?

Which the better value between this and the 300 I got the other day for $150?

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to find a great sounding BT capable speaker. I'd hoped this was it, but alas, not according to reviews. It too appears to suffer from poor Bluetooth consistency. I'm not even looking for a "smart" speaker. In fact, unless I have to, I'd prefer NOT to connect it to an AI.

FYI - HK appears to have really good deals on all of their Smart speakers, not just this one.

I contacted them to cancel my earlier order (recent deal:149) of hk citation 300 to order this one. The customer support gave me a code that brings this price to 160.99 which is just 10 more than the hkc 300 deal. I think they offer to anyone who approaches them.
