There aren't many cordless random orbit sanders on the market. With the Ridgid Gen5X Sander, you're not just settling for what's available. You're getting solid performance with the convenience of cordless at the same price point as corded models.

They have an octane one now which I would prefer. I have this exact sander I think it was 45$ new at homedepot. I really like it.

I see an octane sheet sander on Home Depot's website [homedepot.com] for $89, but no octane version of the orbital sander. $45 new at Home Depot sounds like a great deal.

They don't have an octane orbital sander

I bought this recently from tools direct. I like it a lot. I took the dust collector out, bought a very cheap hose adapter on amazon and hooked it up to my shop vac. Zero mess. I was and am very pleased.

I posted this last time it was this price:

I've bought this from DTO. For the price it's a no brainer if you're on the Ridgid platform. I use it frequently for small jobs, so nice to not be tethered by a cord. The dust collection on it is great by itself. the attached bag collects a lot. better than any sander I've used. Hooks up to multiple different sized vacs. I use the orange Ridgid hose and it works perfectly with it.

With that being said, this should not be your primary sander. This sander 'jumps' quite a bit and can be tough to control even with high grit and low speeds. If its a flat horizontal level surface I can use on highest speed but for everything else I don't go above a 4 on the speed dial. It's phenomenal on big tabletops. it's not very well balanced with the battery, but I'm sure that's almost an impossible task.

I had one... just returned it. It was too unwieldy for me. The motor is so strong, it was hard to control. It would jerk and move all over the place making it really difficult to do what I wanted to do.

I really like my Ridgid tools, but this one didn't work for me.

By bare tool, does it mean that it is batter powered and will come without battery?

Right, no charger or battery included, so you'd need to either already have those if you have another Ridgid tool, or buy them separately (which would probably ruin this as a deal).

Do you mind sharing which adapter you bought? Thanks

Dude so it turns out I lied. I forgot that I actually ended up using the adapter that came with this shitty sander vac kit 9.25-in Vacuum Hand Sander https://www.lowes.com/pd/Marshall...1000204417. It randomly fit perfectly into the slot tight as could be. The other adapters i got just would not fit.

Are you sure this qualifies for LSA?

According to DTOs warranty page...

RIDGID Three-Year Limited Warranty
- All RIDGID Factory Blemished Power Tools and Outdoor Equipment are covered by a 3-year warranty.

Am I missing something? I almost pulled the trigger on this. I have a corded Hitachi. I would get this as a blemished if it could get LSA.
