Was searching for some deals on chromebooks and founds this one.. def lukewarm but the specs are far better ( Intel Pentium Silver N5000, Intel UHD Graphics 605) when compared to traditional chromebooks ( N4000, graphics 500 etc.)

I just ordered this. Lenova 13" Flex 5. It's a new release. Only other place I found that had it was B&H Photo, available in July. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B086383...1EbVGBD616
Best Buy sells but it goes in and out of stock. I've heard really good things about the Flex 5.
(This is the 5205U vs Core i3 version)(and no backlit keyboard?)
https://www.bestbuy.com/site/leno...Id=6406891
There's also a 4gb/32gb version for $20 less.

Thinking about getting a Chromebook for my 6 and 7 year old for home schooling. This looks good, but doesn't seem to have touch input, which seems like a major selling point for the Chromebook and younger kids.

So maybe this Chromebook isn't the best fit? What do you think?
Yes, I am also looking for another chromebook for the kids' schooling and the 3rd grader and the 1st grader both need a touchscreen for their math programs. The 3rd grader can use a regular keyboard for the ELA stuff, but the 1st grader really needs a touch screen, even for turning the pages of a book on-screen. (We use ST Math, Epic Books, Raz-Kids, and LexiaCore5 for reference.)

I would look at Acer swift 1 with similar specs. If you want windows. Works quite well if you accept it that it is an low powered processor. https://www.walmart.com/ip/Acer-S...SellerId=0

Since I can't find it at the above list, anyone have one?

If so, can you check its update end date via the instructions at https://support.google.com/chrome...166?hl=en? Thanks!

Don't waste your money.

Kids at this age do not use keyboards. I got my 7 year old daughter (1st grade) the Amazon Fire HD 10 and used XDA Amazon Tool Box to make it into a stock android tablet. This machine has been able to handle "everything" really well.

Before this, she used the "family laptop", a 17.3" Asus Rog (lol). But this tablet is so much better. Alot of her work is based on timed answers and even though I have an external mouse, it took her a long time to go to the correct answer and hit the mouse (she would get like 16 done in a minute and now she dos 32 in a minute with the tablet).

Lastly, an Amazon Fire HD 10 can be found for as low as $80 when on sale at Amazon (for $100). This sale usually happens every 3-4 months. I hope it goes on sale before Prime Day...

Once expected to run from July 15 through July 16, Amazon Prime Day 2020 won't arrive until at least August 2020 due to the novel coronavirus, COVID-19, according to internal meeting notes obtained by Reuters, with The Wall Street Journal reporting that the event will now take place in September, two months before Black Friday.

At this price point I would look for a i3 with a 1080P screen.

See my post above, but I swear buy the Amazon Fire HD 10 tablet and it can not be beat for the price when on sale.

p.s. My daughter 1st grade just hit level 10 on LexiaCore5.

If I had to buy a ChomeBook, I would get the same one as mentioned in a previous post....

Yes, it is a little more expensive but worth it... IMHO.

My brother-in-law who is a school teacher (live on a budget and almost never buys stuff) with three kids just got the Pixelbook Go 13.3" Touch-Screen Chromebook - Intel Core m3 - 8GB Memory - 64GB SSD for his kid who is going into grade 7 next year. I personally think it is to expensive for a kid.

They used their Android-modded Amazon Fire HD 10s, but it could only do 90% of the work. SplashLearn is incompatible and Google Meet chats with the whole class (10+) didn't work. The later might have been fixed as Google updated the Meet app. Printing is an issue that maybe I can figure out, but it was easier to be interrupted every 15 minutes for the next print out ;-).

And of course they had a typing class, so it was really necessary to have a keyboard for that.

Google Classroom was an unmitigated disaster on Android... as strange as that sounds.

The XtraMath.org app (the timed math) costs money on Android (x2) and is free on a computer with touch screen, so that's a savings. (You are right that mouse doesn't work well, but number keys do.) I don't mind supporting that group though.

I couldn't justify spending $400+ on a Chromebook when I can find some Motiles on sale (I might have to wait) for less money, better specs, and full PC compatibility, storage, etc.
