Push spreaders are so much better. I own this am regret it
They are except on hills. If you have significant elevation changes then push ones do not spread as evenly. I have to use a hand held on my yard for that reason. I tried several different types of push spreaders including a drop spreader and it was not as good as a hand held spreader at evenly distributing whatever I was applying.
This thing is junk. Broke within a month.

I bought the battery powered version for around $15 last year so I would keep an eye out for that deal.

I have a push and I think i would prefer this. I live in a small suburban neighborhood and a lot of the grassy patches are small and difficult navigate with the push spreader shoots it out too far push spreader would be good for a large expensive one not broken up squares which is where I live

I've used a hand held spreader like this for years. Easy to control where you want the seed/fertilizer to go. I also use these to spread ice melt in the winter. After reading through the reviews it mentions that Scott's doesn't have this model listed showing what setting to put it on when you're spreading fertilizer, etc. In the Q&A section someone did answer though saying for grass seed it's setting 1 and 2. For fertilizer it's setting 3 and 4 and for ice melt it's setting 5. Picked up two more. Thanks OP. Repped.
