Wowtac A6 flashlight,18650 built-in charger $24, FS

ThruNite Direct via Amazon [amazon.com] has the Wowtac A6 for $30 - 20% off clippable coupon = $24. Free shipping even if you don't have Prime.

I saw another flashlight deal today on the front page for the Anker Bolder LC90 $22 and almost brought it. After some research, I'm glad I found this one instead. It's $2 more than the Anker, but has some features I liked better:
  • no awful "tactical" aesthetic. Just a straight flashlight.
  • has a firefly mode of 0.2 lumens, and it can be accessed directly from off.
  • button sequence doesn't force you to go through strobe or turbo mode mode in typical usage. Don't have to hold the button down for 2 seconds to turn it off if you want to avoid those annoying modes. Just a much cleaner UI.

Otherwise, it has some of the same good features as the Anker in the front page. Built-in USB micro connector for charging the 18650 battery. Really bright, multiple useful modes.

Some negatives: no zoom though, and doesn't have the customer service reputation of Anker.

ProjectFarm did a comparison video of different 18650s. Def worth a watch and may answer your question.

Only thing stopping me is lack of zoom. Thanks, OP. Repped anyway for your efforts.

That is hands down the worst possible reason to not get this. Zoomables are flawed by design. Any flashlight enthusiast will tell you this. Zooming flashlights allow oil, dirt, moisture and debris to get into the flashlight lens housing. It's a flawed design which is why they show up on the cheapest crappiest flashlights.

There is maybe 2 zoomable flashlights of quality in the entire world, and you won't be seeing them for under $100 and they're not waterproof.

If you want to see something far away, you get a thrower flashlight like the noctigon K1. If you want to see an entire area light up, you get a flooder light, like the emisar D18. Wanna set something on fire from over there? Get a 90.2 LED in a K1 housing and you can cook an egg.

You will not find a more complete list of 18650 battery testing than this:

https://lygte-info.dk/review/batt...%20UK.html

Or this sortable filtered spreadsheet:
https://lygte-info.dk/info/batteryIndex.html

Lastly this explains how the batteries were tested and how to read the tests:

What about a couple different options for simple around-the-house / exterior use? You seem way more knowledgeable than me so I thought I'd ask. Thanks in advance.

I have this charger, and it's been terrific for charging my 18650s, as well as AAA, AAs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product...UTF8&psc=1

If you want the best value, disassemble an old laptop. The majority of them have 6 18650 cell battery packs, especially the removable ones. They might not be peak quality, but I've had several people give me laptops for free because they were too slow to use anymore. Just gotta install their printer drivers 👍

My favorite is LUMINTOP TOOL AA [amazon.com] for $18. It uses AA or 14500 batteries. They have a AAA version, I use the most, but it's out of stock. I got an email saying it will be back in a month. If you want a a few inexpensive ones with rechargeable batteries included, the EverBrite 150 [amazon.com] for $10 is hard to beat.

Did none of the 20 links he posted seem adequate enough?

I understand your points. You are just preaching to the wrong choir. I am too cheap to be a serious torch buyer. I have cheap ones for both purposes and am very happy. Reps for the information for others though.

Candlepower forums is great if you want to talk about AA flashlights all day long.

BLF is great if you like a forum where the rules regarding decency aren't enforced for popular members.

Reddit is great if you like garbage.

All of them are just about overrun by shills. Just like here, I guess.

Say what you want about how ugly tactical flashlights are(they are), but they do sometimes offer some self-protection capabilities that this light does not. These are so small that no one is going to see them in your hand, and it's probably going to be night time when you use it, anyway.
