Yes, these are headphones. Yes, they're expensive. If you're happy with the free earbuds that came with your phone, these probably aren't for you. If you don't know why someone would spend $450 on a set of headphones, think of an interest or hobby of yours and how much you're willing to spend on it vs. the average person. Or consider why people purchase a Mercedes S class when you can get an equivalently sized Hyundai for less than 1/3 the cost.
So yes, these are good headphones. I believe this is the first time these have been on sale. Normal price is $500.
It's similar to the Koss ESP/950, differences being no extension cable, no carrying cable, different color and velour earpads. The ESP/950 is a relatively old design; it's been sold by Koss for at least 25 years, IIRC, but it's still current. Supposedly the energizer is the weak point with these, and some people make adapters to use them with a Stax energizer.
