They shouldn't be compared, the secret of mana remake was just the original redone with a 3 dimensional-perspective polygonal art style, and viewed as lackluster. Trials may be the same story but now the combat engine and the world's been built from the ground up.

So does that make it better?

The graphics are good, but on a basic level. Soundtrack is great. Voice Acting brings everything down. It's downright BAD. Story is nothing to praise on (it's basically the same from Famicom/SNES version).

Has New Game +. I played through it once and beat it at Lv 65, 25 hours. I don't really feel the desire to replay it with other characters or play through the "secret bonus section" after the credits roll, but enjoyed it for the gameplay most of all.

There is a free demo available in the eShop for those that are on the fence. I really want this game, but Square Enix doesn't seem to have supply issues like other publishers for Switch that print games in extremely small batches, so I will probably wait for further price drops. Good deal for such a new game, for sure.

Oh. Most definitely. Especially if you played the original. They followed the feel of the original with the updated 3D. Even if you have not played the original, you will recognize the elemental/spell characters and spells. The enemies from SoM are in the game too. The battle system is great. The only knock I have against this game is the voice acting. This is mitigated by just putting Japanese as the audio but you get subtitles. It would just be like watching an Anime. If you do get this, make sure to remember that you can target your enemies by hitting the left analog stick button.
