My thoughts...

Anyone thinking about the refresh XT chips should be willing to:

1. wait a while and
2. not expect a worthwhile price drop on the current chips

Rationally it's safe to assume that without a release date, that refresh chips aren't quite close to hitting shelves, and might be timed to bridge the gap to the Zen3 4000 series chips -- and this could imply those won't hit until the latter side of the announced Q4. There are still supply chain issues right now.

Prices are more likely to stay the same (or drop what, five to ten bucks on the 3600? Maybe a little more on this pricey 3950x) on the current chips because the new ones will have higher clocks. It's likely the refreshes come in at a higher price, especially with ongoing tariffs and supply chain issues. They also can't afford to cannibalize the new value chips, 3100x and 3300x, with competition from a price drop on their own 3600.

I'm looking at this chip or the 3900x specifically so I'm hoping the XT will cause a little movement on these.

One way too say it. Leaked Benchmarks usually mean product is coming up soon. History dictates....

I'm just saying we don't know when they're going to arrive. Sometimes AMD drops something and boom next week they have it on shelves. It's a long shot but I am hoping for quick turn around. I'm not expecting much, but I'm hoping.

Sounds like these are dropping in price pretty fast. I'd be interested at $200, when do you think they'll hit that?
2024, maybe.

The thing is the 3950X is the end-stage for the B450 chips, barring flashing to the 4000 series. For me, the 3950 represents something like a 50% increase in single threaded performance and a 300% increase in multi-threaded. I'm on a pretty vanilla 5-2600, but a lot of people who built bargain gaming machines in the last 2 years are in the same boat. We'll be vying for the remaining 39nnX stock over the next couple of years because it represents a high return/low risk+effort upgrade path. I think it will remain relevant, like the i7-4790 class CPUs, for a while after it's replaced by higher series.

SDBuddy we meet again. i just bought this processor for the machine i just built. it's really great.

i got a little lucky. I had a 10% coupon in my inbox from BestBuy for being a CC holder. i got them to pricematch $700 price at microcenter and then take the 10% off from that point, and then on top of that got the financing... :-)

How do Ryzen compare to Intel? I've always thought amd was the garbage of processors.
Are you still rocking Windows 95 too?
