Good laptop but non-HD screen is a deal killer It's ridiculous to use non-HD screens at these times.
You can turn that off though.
One of my biggest tech regrets was getting a 768p laptop for schoolwork -- word processing, research, collaborative work, etc. is cramped and lousy (especially on a 15"). Anything less than 1080p is simply not worth it in my opinion.

Hi! Longtime lurker, first-time commenter. I bit the bullet and bought this laptop for my 11 year old Roblox fiend. She is already playing, no glitches, less than an hour after unpacking the Walmart box. I also downloaded chrome and Zoom, which are the programs she uses for online instruction. The display seems fine for those of you who are concerned with all the comments about that (at least from mom's perspective). She is beyond thrilled. This is an upgrade from another Lenovo Windows laptop I bought her three years ago at Microcenter. That simply ran out of room and Roblox started to glitch. At $300 if I have to replace it within 2-3 years it was a great buy.

Screen resolution is a deal killer. Walmart sells a generic laptop called Motile for the same price - AMD Ryzen 3, 3000 series. I bought the i5 one over Christmas for $299, some light bleed on the screen but a great little laptop. Point is FULL HD.

All 5 of my current laptops from 12-17" are 720p and it's no big deal. That's the last thing that would stop me from buying this. But I won't buy it because it's an i3. For this house we are buying AMD from now on

Just to echo what many people have said:
15.6" 1366x768 TN Display in 2020 is garbage.

Do not buy this product at any price point - you'll be sorry.

Please spend a few bucks more to get something with a better screen.

This is precisely my use case. Nine-year-old was using an older desktop which kept crashing Roblox and now he's on an 7 year old Lenovo T420 that doesn't glitch but I imagine doesn't have much longer. Will be connected to monitor and wireless peripherals almost exclusively.

I bought my wife a Walmart Lenovo on a Christmas slick deal. It has been a disappointment. For example, a key fell off before it was even a month old. Just sayin'.

Just got this for my daughter who is now in 5th grade. I don't care about the monitor resolution (it's tragic that half the posts are people here barking about the res). I am familiar with desktop processors and how i3 compares to i5 to i7, etc... but not as familiar with laptop processors. I know it's 10th gen -- which is good (latest). But in terms of laptop i3s, is this a pretty week i3? Average? Powerful? She won't need a ton of horsepower, but just was curious what we're getting into.

Thanks.

Generally speaking, cpubenmark.net is a good place to compare CPU performance.
Ex. at google search box, type in "i3 1005g benchmark", click on the link and you get "5175".
Then, if you heard someone mentioned, i5-7300u is a better deal....
then, you realized i5-7300 only get "3743", you can just smile and walk away. Smilie

People get way too hung up on buzzwords when it comes to talking about computer specs. The single-thread benchmark result for this Lenovos's i3 is between a desktop i5-7400 and i7-6700. It's equal/faster than the 8th gen i3s in Dell's current lineup of business Latitude laptops. It's not a slow CPU unless you're doing stuff that you shouldn't be buying a $299 laptop for in the first place.

The difference between i3 and i5 in in cheap laptops is trivial compared to the difference between similarly priced APU processors and i3s. Compared to those this could be 2-8X as fast.

Thanks. This puts it into better perspective. Just wanted to ensure it wasn't along the lines of some chrome book or something. Repped.

Thanks for comments on the screen. I will wait for deal on a better one.

Yes but it's only 100% faster than a 3rd gen i3. the 10th gen i5 is 30% faster. There is a reason why it is STILL in stock

Ordered this computer we did
Arrived on doorstep yesterday, it did
Good for schoolwork, it seems
Resolution, adequate it is
Viewing angles, good they are
Gaming on it, we have not
Happy with it, we are

tbh this Acer Aspire 5 Slim with Ryzen 3 @ $350 [amazon.com] everyday price is a better deal. Slower CPU, 4GB RAM (half) to start, 128GB (half) NVMe. But the speed absolutely will not affect business or schoolwork. Neither will the 4GB. Nor the 128GB. What will affect everyone is not having 1080p. Not having IPS screen. Not having backlit keyboard. Not having 7.5 hours battery life. The Lenovo bdnchmarks I've seen scored very low on battery life. Stats aren't everything if you're looking at the ones that are inconsequential to you for your intended use.

I bought that laptop for $270 on Amazon a YEAR ago!

By now, we should have that same laptop but with 256GB and 8GB RAM for the same price or at least $300!!!
