Just bought two of these last month from Canon, also refurbished, for $160 each. This is a great deal. Good camera, very good battery life on mine, and excellent for live streaming, as it has clean hdmi out. Definitely make sure your have lots of light, as the image quality seriously suffers in even moderate lighting.

Edit: read the title wrong. It's the R800, not the R80, that I bought. This one does NOT have hdmi out. Sorry.

Edited again: This one does have HDMI out. I am an idiot and have nothing valuable to add to this discussion.
Does not include an ac adapter.... How do you charge it?
Just fyi... I bought two R30 models for about the same price each several years ago.The R80 is about 7 years newer, but besides reported 60p, the other specs are the same. I've used them for kids' baseball pointing down the first baseline from the 'outfield' and home plate. In good light, yes they'll do the trick. Weak light...ugh...my Elph does better.

I bought extended life batteries and 64GB cards for all-game shooting. The long zoom is indeed combined optical/digital with 32x optical.

Just info -hoping to help, cause I love my SD family.

You don't even need 4k for YouTube videos and I wouldn't recommend it in most cases. The question becomes how good is the image quality of the 1080p. How the sound? Sound can always be worked around though. But I wouldn't even do YouTube in 4k unless I wanted to show details better on something. A) it takes all day to process and upload. B) a lot of people will be viewing it in small phone screens anyways. of course there is advantages to recording in 4k and downsizing, but yeah.

This one DOES have HDMI out, but no AC adapter, which is proprietary? Hunting ebay for one is not for me personally.

I specifically mentioned the 4K YouTubers as these days any camera/ camcorder deal posted missing 4K is stomped on and spit on. Most people don't actually need 4K as you said. There is a external mic jack on this camera which is nice for better sound (although I believe it has to be a self powered mic)

I don't know if I'd buy a 1080P camera at this point. I like 4K because even if I output to 1080, it looks better after it's scaled than it would if I just shot 1080 to begin with. I can choose a higher quality 1080 than the camera's highest setting so when I do upload it to wherever the quality survives a bit better after they compress the heck out of it. Maybe.
Fair enough. Benefits to no 4K- clearly cheaper, faster to upload and edit if needed, less memory card space used, possibly recording longer (depending on cars size of course). 15 years from now, If my son asks why I didn't record a family picnic in 4K, Ill know I raised him wrong haha.
