Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's both have the Shimano Stradic CI4+ spinning reel on sale for $149.97 + tax, with free 2-day shipping. Reel MSRP is $229 and rarely (if ever) goes on sale. This reel is ultra lightweight and extremely smooth, with multiple size models ranging from 1000-4000 series. Also, if you're eligible and signed-up for the military discount, you get an additional 5% off price.

Description:

Shimano® Stradic Ci4+ Spinning Reel
X-Ship for ultrasmooth performance
Rugged cold-forged-aluminum Hagane drive gear
Magnumlite rotor provides unparalleled line control
Shimano's Stradic Ci4+ Spinning Reel boasts ultrasmooth performance combined with a striking design. Rugged cold-forged-aluminum Hagane drive gear is 20% thicker to provide superior strength and durability. New Magnumlite® rotor is 25% lighter, is better balanced and produces 22% less inertia for a light feeling, right from the first turn. G-Free body moves the reel's center of gravity closer to the rod for a lightweight, comfortable fee. Coreprotect water-resistant components for saltwater use.

Good deal OP. I already got one in the 2500 size. I actually prefer the aluminum Stradics, but someone will be happy to get one of these as a present.

New to fishing, is this a good reel for fishing from shore with 12 ft rod? Would like to catch Black Sea bass, flounder, and possibly cod.

I'm so happy with the slick deal Daiwa REVROS LT Spinning Reel for $30 a while back. Good thing I don't need a reel right now!

The 4000 size maybe but I'd think you would want something a bit more salt preventative if you're doing that

4000 would probably work with those but I would shoot for something a bit bigger... 6000-8000 size.

Ii fish from off the beach with a 4000, I think that's minimum and it works well since your not casting too far off, anything 4000 less wouldn't work in my opinion.

1. You don't use a 12ft rod for any of the fish you are targeting, it's way too long. 7~9' will be more general depends on where you are fishing.

2. Cod is a deep(er) sea fish, it's different then catching Sea bass and flounder. Gears and lures are all different.

3. The 3000 should be good for all general inshore fish.

Whats the deal with gear ratios? Whats the difference between 6:0:1 and 6:2:1? Appreciate any feedback!
