Windows 10 Professional Retail (NOT upgrade or OEM) $39 PCWorld store

Win 10 Pro Retail key (not upgrade or OEM) which can be used as a fresh install or upgrade, and can transferred between PCs $39 from the PCWorld store [pcworld.com].

Yes, it's still probably a grey market key (they reference "Mediamart" as the supplier) but the backing and promotion by a long-standing tech reporting outlet makes it a little less shady than CDkeys or whatever.

Do these keys expire? I dont need one right now, but i know the moment this expires, I'll wind up needing a fresh license.

Good deal. But I have bought the past two Windows CD Keys from an EBay merchant for just a few bucks. Granted, those are probably for testing purposes and such - but I haven't had an issue with either code. Going on a couple years now.

It is probably shady. Many windows 7 corporate PC's out there comes with a license sticker on top which you can use on your PC. Most companies are not even using this pro license as they have brought an enterprise license.

Recently I brought an AMD 450m mobo with an Ryzen 2600+ cpu, installed windows 10 pro and put in a license from a Windows 7 pro pc and it automatically activated.

In my personal experiences, keys do not expire. However if this is a "grey market" key then the chances are the same key is being sold and after X number of activation's Microsoft will stop new activation's and/or deactivate and blacklist the key. Again there are many unknown factors with the background of these keys so I personally would not recommend spending the money unless you are going to be activating the key soon. As always YMMV.

15+ years ago I purchased Windows XP from fleabay for $2 and after 10 years of usage on a laptop started displaying a black "not Genuine" wallpaper screen. The laptop it was on eventually was worthless due to obsolescence. It is my understanding that high volume / bulk purchasers like Dell and HP pay $19 - $29 for win10 pro licenses. Not sure how the fleabay key sellers are able to sell for $5-$10 unless they are counterfeit or they are leveraging the "unused upgrades found on so many retired PCs". It would seem that $39 may be more legit $$$

$39 is way too much to gamble on a grey market key.

I don't know where to look. And probably many others.
Why don't you tell us where to look.

If you act like you are about to buy home they give you another $5 off to push you to buy Pro.

Surprising for a major PC media outlet to get into the shady keys promotion business.

All valid points. I've also bought licenses really cheap in the past. I was going to do it again but this one is via a major PC media outlet, which gives a little more credibility. I bought one. Thanks for letting us know.

You can buy a W10 key for like $2-3 on ebay last I looked. Never had an issue with them. Probably just as legit as this garbage.

FYI...I think I paid $10 for a windows 10 key from eBay about 5 years ago. Works perfectly. So there's that...
